Posted 7/5/07 6:21:00PM GracieMag reported the news Friday on Twitter, revealing that the former Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist would join the UFC’s 205-pound ranks. No debut date for the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace was mentioned, but the outlet stated that Gracie (Pictured) could find himself training with longtime middleweight champion Anderson Silva before he enters the Octagon for the first time. Born in Brazil but now residing in England, Gracie is one of the world’s best grapplers. In 2005, the 30-year-old won both the heavyweight and absolute divisions at the ADCC submission grappling championships, submitting Shinya Aoki, Fabricio Werdum, Alexandre Ribeiro and Ronaldo Souza en route to the absolute title. Posted 1/27/07 9:53:00PM I feel bad for anyone that lets him take them down even once at 205. _______________________________________ |

Posted 10/20/09 3:33:00PM sucks for him that pretty much all of the top LHWs are good to great strikers...and pretty much all have good TDD. _______________________________________ |

Posted 9/30/09 9:33:00PM i didnt think he was good enough to be in the ufc. he's got great submission pedigree but there are a ton of world class grapplers in the ufc, plus they can throw bombs, and have equally as good wrestling pedigree's. |

Posted 6/1/07 8:17:00AM Roger Gracie is a minefield. The rest of the division is a bunch of UAVs dropping missiles. |

There definitely are NOT a bunch of world class grapplers in the UFC. There are a hand full at best. Not enough really good jiu jitsu guys are coming into MMA anymore. If Roger can get some passable striking and a good takedown game he's going to beat a lot of people. |

Posted 8/10/11 1:23:00AM Deffs a nice addition to roster, hope he decides to move down to 185 at one point. Tough to see him being a legit contender though unless his striking comes along. Anything can happen! |

Exactly. He's a good pick up, but I would favor any of his opponents with decent striking and tdd. If Mo was able to drop him standing, there are a whole bunch more in the UFC that would do the same. _______________________________________ |

Posted 4/12/07 4:37:00PM Great addition to the division and i'm very excited to see how he fairs. I'm not super optimistic about how he'll fair but you can't deny the Jits he's got. |

My thoughts exactly. As a long time fan, I want to see a Gracie carry the torch forward in MMA, but his stand up is just way too rudimentary for me to be convinced he can make any real impact in the UFC. |
