Posted 4/8/07 11:45:00AM Pat Healy can't say he's really all that surprised. Before the lightweight fighter took a late-notice booking against Maximo Blanco, he looked up his opponent's past bouts in Japan and noticed a disturbing trend: He often fought dirty. Healy's bout with Blanco at Saturday's "Strikeforce World Grand Prix: Barnett vs. Kharitonov" event nearly ended early due to his opponent's illegal kicks. But Healy was determined to earn his victory the old-fashioned way. Instead, Healy shook off the affects of nearly a dozen illegal kicks and stormed back for a second-round submission victory on the Showtime-televised main card at Cincinnati's U.S. Bank Arena. Posted 7/4/07 4:41:00AM To be honest, when it happened I didnt think much about it, maybe that's because I've been watching a lot of pride lately. Man I wish kicks to a downed opponent were legal. It makes it more exciting IMO _______________________________________ |

Posted 6/21/07 4:27:00PM Yeah, I didn't think much about it either. Like I thought it was interesting on my first though, like I wasn't thinking about it being illegal untill I realized it once the ref started to come in. With some of those guys not used to the rules, they can just do it on instinct(sp) |

Posted 7/15/07 12:46:00AM Seems like Healy has a dislike for Blanco. First calls him a roid head and then dirty. |

Posted 6/7/10 4:11:00PM I guess he planned on milking the pain to get a point taken away, I mean they were little patter kicks and he acted like he was almost knocked out, dam i wish that was pride healy wouldve been in big trouble for sure if blanco really let loose on those kicks.. i dont know man, these limited rules of no knees or kicks are getting annoying and the crowd acted like blanco stole candy from a baby after those little kicks too haha gimme a break... it was a good win for healy but he sure opened his mouth enough, what did blanco do to him exactly... |

Posted 9/11/11 10:12:00PM The fact of the matter is that those kicks WERE illegal, and most people consider doing something illegal dirty. I totally see where Healy is coming from. Very glad Healy won, and he did it in such a sick way. |

Dude get off Blanco's nuts!! Those "pitter-patter" kicks caused a cut that was vicious enough to call in the doctor between rounds! |

I agree with this and wonder the same thing. Pretty much the moment this fight was booked Healy was talking trash but I never heard anything from Maximo. Did I miss something, or is Healy looking to take on a Sonnen like persona to get attention? _______________________________________ |

Posted 4/8/07 11:09:00PM Those kicks shouldn't be illegal. There is nothing more dangerous about them than a myriad of other legal strikes. But they were, and I'm pretty sure Blanco knew they were. He isn't stupid. And I am not sure what put the sand in Healy's snizz about Blanco. He has basically called Blanco a dirty cheating 'roid user. It might be that Pat Healy and Blanco have had vastly different career experiences, and that Healy felt slighted by the hype that Blanco had. _______________________________________ |
