Machida is going to get blanketed.

I'm basing my predictions off of a 5 round Main Event Non-title fight:
Round 1: Machida plays solid defense for most of the round. Sonnen lands nothing but a few jabs that sneak by the D of Machida. Machida hits Sonnen with a few flush counters causing some bruising to Chael's face. However Chael scores a take down before the final bell of round 1. Judging table is mixed, but gives the round to Machida.

Round 2: Same start to the round, Chael circles and looks for chances to strike or gain a take down. He scores another take down and lands some solid GNP. Machida is on his back for the final 3 and half minutes of this round. This round goes to Chael.

Round 3: Machida comes out with a little more fire and hits Chael with a solid mix of kicks and punches. Chael catches a body kick mid round and takes Machida down for more GNP. Machida again finishes the round on his back. This round goes to Chael again.

Round 4: Machida starts looking desperate and goes for a take down of his own, he sets it up well and gets it, but Chael quickly reverses and gets in to a dominate side control. GNP back then slight lack of aggression and they are stood up with about a minute to go. Chael goes right back in for a take down and gets it, leaving Machida on his back for another round. Chael takes it again and is in line for the win.

Round 5: Machida looking like all hope is lost, tries two quick head kicks, both are blocked. He seems to be looking for a home run, since time is running out. Chael scores and take down and the crowd seems upset he is going to grind a decision, even tho Machida has taken some decent damage via GNP. Chael is in Machida's guard and is working some GNP when Machida catches one of Chael's arms and throws his legs up and hooks in an arm-triangle choke. The crowd is going nuts. Chael has to tap....Machida gets up sprints around the octagon and jumps up to straddle the cage. Its over.....
Rogan and Goldberg are stunned this has happened again to Chael.

All in all, should be a good fight, doesn't make much sense tho.

This is funny cause it really sounds like the fight of Machida and Tito and Tito almost had Machida in a sub...Machida doesnt have a ground game period...

is sonnen really chirping machida's black belt? what happened last time he disrespected someone's belt.

maybe sonnen can't make the weight cut without testosterone?
"America's dominance over brazil?" someone needs to let this guy know he has a 1-5 record against brazilians.

SpiderSilva » Posted 7/10/07 6:44:00PM

i don't know if sonnen can take down machita cause machita does pretty well vs wrestlers. although sonnen is the best at taking people down. I'm thinking machita wins with his style via DEC. then well sonnen is prettymuch 1 fight away from being cut

Catching an arm triangle off his back, huh? I retract my last statement. I WILL AV bet that doesn't happen, haha

I do not understand what is going on...

First of all, Sonnen was so close to capturing the middle title as he clearly dominated Anderson Silva in their bout.

Is this a way for him to slowly come back to 185 since he has not fought in so long and may have put on some weight?

I have no idea what is going on here but assuming this fight with Machida comes to fruition, I would predict Machida would be too fast for Sonnen. Machida has an excellent stand up game and an excellent take down defense. This is a very bad match up for Sonnen. He may have fire in his eyes since Machida is a training partner of Anderson Silva and furthermore he has very little respect for dancers but we have witnessed from time and again, Dance Dance Revolution experts like Silva and Machida have brought down big names with their mesmerizing routines.

I say forget about the 205 division and concentrate on the middle weight crown.

Patchedup15 » Posted 9/26/10 1:22:00PM

This is without a doubt related to machida being Silva's friend. I doubt Sonnen has any intention of staying at 205. This is just to go out and prove that he can do like Anderson and compete in a higher weight class against good fighters. He should be more concerned about getting back to 185 and earning another title shot. If he really wants a "tune up" fight like he claims machida is... he should ask for Leben or if he's ambitious.. Brian Stann.

Stann would get mauled by Sonnen. a "tune-up fight" best suited for Sonnen to prove he can beat a BJJ specialist is to take on Jason Macdonald.

I know its been said already, but why the hell is chael going to 205? The way I look at it, after his first fight with Silva he'll get another title shot at mw with 1 or 2 fights back. At lhw, I think he'll need atleast 3 solid wins to even be in contention.

I think he once had a good foundation of ground game but his style and training focuses more on the stand up. Machida is good at tripping his opponents and taking them down but with lack of training in the ground and pound department, he is forced to stand back up. Same thing with being on his back >>>He probably once had a good guard but with lack of training, his current guard is probably mediocre.

I have been saying this for a long time since I was a Machida fan. What he needs to do is focus half of his training into ground and pound and fighting off his back. If he can upgrade these two areas of his game, he would be immensely difficult to beat and the only fighter left to stand in his way would be the freakish Jon Jones with his long tentacles.

Whenever i pick a Machida fight i ask myself, "Would Chuck Liddell win that fight in his prime?" Almost everytime it's the same result. The only real difference is Machida is more accurate/hit's less hard.

Never thought about that.

Totally true though.

Machida also has better jits.

The really interesting thing is he said "throws his legs up" and hooks in an arm triangle choke. I don't know about you, but I find it damn near impossible to get an arm triangle using my legs.

I'd rather see him prove his worth against a BJJ specialist by taking on Palhares. Macdonald is a good choice too though. It's a shame that Jacare isn't under the UFC banner. I think sonnen's arm/neck would make for an excellent addition to Jacare's collection of stuffed limbs he has mounted on his wall.

Gotta go with machida.
