Mike Pierce vs. Johny Hendricks targeted for UFC 133 in Philly   [View Full Version]
FastKnockout » Posted 9/24/10 8:39:00PM

A welterweight bout between Mike Pierce (12-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) and Johny Hendricks (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) is in the works for UFC 133. A source close to the negotiations told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the competitors have agreed to the bout. However, bout agreements haven't been signed, and UFC officials haven't announced the fight. UFC 133 takes place Aug. 6 in Philadelphia. The city's Wells Fargo Center is expected to host the pay-per-view event. Pierce vs. Hendricks likely will be part of the PPV broadcast or a preliminary-card teaser that airs or streams in some form. I love this fight. These two guys, Ellenberger, and Story all came into the UFC quietly and really made some noise since getting there. Not sure who I'll take here, but I like Pierce's stand up better, and clearly Hendricks has the wrestling edge.

I think it's reverse, at least to me. Pierce with the wrestling and Hendricks with the stand up.

But, tough fight for sure.

Could be similar to Hendricks vs Story for Hendricks.

Tough one for Hendricks. Pierce is probably the all-around better fighter. Couldn't see Hendricks taking a round from Fitch. Pierce UD

I think it will come down to who has the edge strength wise, and I'd give it to Pierce. Since joining the UFC, the only guy to really have a strength advantage over him was Fitch, and I doubt Hendricks will give him the problems Fitch did. I really like Hendricks, but I don't think he will win unless he catches Pierce with an unexpected combination on the feet. If that doesn't happen, I think Pierce will just use his strength and wrestling to grapple his way to a decision win.

If Hendricks losses here I wonder if he would consider an attempt at LW....I've always thought he would be better there, maybe because of his hieght...not sure....but he sure does hit hard...reminds me of a small Dan Henderson.

This is a great fight. I am with the rest of you guys, this is a very even fight. Both guys are built like oxen, with very strong wrestling, and better striking than most wrestlers posses. I am a fan of both, and they definitely remind me of Story and Ellenberger.

Who to pick?!

Pierce needs a finish or another good performance like Fitch round 3, I forgot all about Pierce, but he is a tough fighter, and the winner here should move up the ranks.
