Report: Sengoku Releases Jorge Santiago   [View Full Version]
DCRage » Posted 8/3/07 12:38:00PM

Sengoku middleweight champion Jorge Santiago has been granted his release by the organization, MMA Fighting has learned from sources close to the promotion. Santiago's manager Malki Kawa of Authentic Sports Management wouldn't confirm or deny that Santiago is now a free agent when reached for comment, but additional sources say Santiago is looking to sign imminently with a major North American promotion. The 23-8 fighter won the Sengoku middleweight title in January 2009, defeating Kazuo Misaki via technical submission. In August, he defeated Misaki again in a fight many consider to be the best of 2010.

Big loss for Sengoku. I wonder if he'll try to sign with the ufc or strikeforce.

I really doubt that Sengoku wanted to release him. He probably wanted out, and it was for the best interest to just release him rather than deal with a disgruntled fighter.

it does kinda sound like they are goin under..i mean all the better known fighters are in Dream..n Dream does get better ratin..i think lil by lil, fighters from SRC will be makin their way to Dream..theres no point in tryin to compete wit each other, when MMA in Japan is slowly dyin..so it's would be best if SRC jus teams up wit Dream..but i doubt they will..so like i said..fighters will slowly make their way there or to the States...

The problem lies in the fact that both orgs have their own monumental problems to deal with.

I thought I read they were going to cut back on spending and the did just cancel a fight Its not looking good for WVR

Sengoku just cancelled a event
I don't blame the guy for wanting to jumpo ship before it sinks

I hope ufc grabs him before strikeforce. But one of them he should
Land with

I'm glad you pointed that out. I was going to say SRC teaming with DREAM right now is like Bernie Madoff bailing out Enron

I think he'd do alright in the UFC this time around.

I have a feeling like it doesn't matter which he signs to (Dream or Strikeforce) because they are starting to make joint fights (Melendez vs Aoki). This means we will see him fight easier regardless, and he won't have a competition drought any time too soon. However if he signs with someone small like Tachi or Bellator then I doubt they will be able to secure him more than 2 interesting matches.
