Ryan Bader vs. Jon Jones official for UFC 126 on Feb. 5 in Las Vegas   [View Full Version]

The much-discussed light heavyweight contest between top prospects Ryan Bader (12-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) and Jon Jones (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) is finally official.

UFC brass recently confirmed on this week's edition of "The Ultimate Insider" that Jones and Bader will meet on the main card of the previously unannounced UFC 126 event.

While the highly anticipated and previously reported main event of Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort was not confirmed, the promotion did confirm that UFC 126 takes place Feb. 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. ( previously reported the event and the matchup.

There was some concern the matchup between the two fast-rising stars had dissolved following UFC president Dana White's proclamation at the UFC Fan Expo London 2010 that the bout was "in jeopardy."

Jones took to the stage the following day to quiet the concern.

"I've been really busy, so I haven't gotten a chance to sign my contract yet, but I think that fight will be set for Feb. 5," Jones said at the expo.

"Bones" finally found that time.

Bader is in for a real rough night.

Agreed. This is going to be the longest (or shortest) night of his life.

Not a fan of the match-up personally as I think it hurts more than helps but I think you'd be crazy to count out Bader in this fight. Yea he's not as good in te stand up but he's not gonna get thrown around like Jones likes to do and he's going to be taken down. Should be an interesting fight.

I definitely think this fight answers a lot of questions about both fighters. For one we finally really, truly get to see how Jones' wrestling stands up against D1 All American level wrestling. I know he tossed Hamill around but I don't see Hamill's wrestling style as one that is nearly as diverse as someone like Bader's. Don't get me wrong.. Hamill is good, but he's not technical the same way Bader is.

As for Bader's end- we get to see how his standup really stacks up. Can he manage distance and mix it up better than he has shown in the past?

Well, the UFC just screwed up the title contention line-up.

So, after Jones/Bader wins and fights for the title against Shogun/Evans, whose next in line to fight? Hamill? Griffin? Rampage? Machida?

I'm very surprised in this decision, unless they already have plans of their own set up. With the contention line-up as it is, all I can see are rematches after Jones/Bader. Oh well.

If this fight goes the way of Jones, I can see him catching a TKO on Bader in the first round. On the other hand, Bader has it in him to take Jones to a three round split decision, but I don't see him finishing.

I like both of these guys, so I won't be taking sides when this fight comes out. It's going to suck if Rashad and Jones wins though, considering Jones said he WILL NOT fight Rashad. Wonder how Dana will react.

Let the best man win.

Damn.... I was really hoping they'd realize what a stupid match-up this is.

Oh well, I guess it could be entertaining to see Bader tossed on his head like a rag doll and elbowed into oblivion. Not that I have anything against the guy, I just don't see how he wins this fight.

im not a huge Bader fan but i was interested in seeing his progression. too bad its about to hit a brick wall. Jones just seems to have all the tools right now to beat just about anyone in the division. but who knows, maybe Bader will be able to stuff his takedowns and maybe even get a few of his own. it will interesting to see what Jones can do off his back if Bader can take him down and wear him out. i've got Jones winning this one by TKO in the second round.

Hendo67 » Posted 11/18/08 1:59:00PM

Yeah, basically what everyone else has said... its going to be a rough one of Bader.

CCPRIDE99 » Posted 7/12/07 7:36:00PM

im picking jones for sure but people are really doubting baders wrestling. maybe bader puts him on his back for 3 rounds. nobodys thinking of this...

Ye I'm surprised they put the pair of them against one another! Their were other interesting fights against top 10'ers for them. I thought they would of done what they did with JDS and cain a year ago, when it made sense to let them fight for a no.1 spot but instead let them fight other guys near the top to build two fresh contenders on the run opposed to one!!

supatolacyl » Posted 8/23/07 8:14:00AM

I love the fight and I hate the fight. Yes, I want to see these guys square off and I think it will be a heck of a fight and I too will pick Jones to win by TKO in the 2nd or 3rd, but up in to that point I think it will be a good fight.

However, I hate the fact that they put two very fast rising stars together and crashes one of them a few fights out of title shot. The UFC could have matched these fast rising stars up against other top guys and ethier they would continue to rise or be put out by a top guy. Ethier way, we would have more of a sense were they would fall into the top rankings. But now which ever guy loses Jones or Bader, you stuck trying to figure out where the loser is in relation to the top 5, since nethier guy has faced a top 5 LHW yet. (Some might argue Bader's fought lil nog when he was a top 5, but IMO after the Brilz/nog fight I wouldn't have put lil nog in a top 5)

Jones is probably going to get the tko somehow, but I really wouldnt be surprised if Bader out wrastled him either.

Wow, so many people are counting Bader out in this! I think Bader wins this fight all day.
