Article

Article on a new trend in why the UFC is picking up a lot of odd guys lately, such as Ruediger and Parisyan.

Really interesting article definately worth a read. I have been wondering about some of the signings recently and still hope for the day babalu gets a call back to the UFC.

The UFC seems to be bringing in guys to knock them down, as much good as the UFC has done, MMA competition is getting watered down, I have seen several Jardine or Tim Boetsch type characters showing up in the UFC and sometimes I'm not excited to see the PPV's anymore. Quantity is good but quality has to be a constant.

All of this definitely makes sense, though it still pisses me off that middle of the road fighters are finding their way into the UFC, despite all the prospects out there busting their asses to get in.

Great article.
Their are a few criticism's I could make of it,namely the part about PRIDE but that has more to do with the authors personal taste than anything else.

It's going to be interesting to see down the road if any future promotion will ever balance the playing field or if the UFC will continue to hold an iron fist over the sport.

Great article. It sounds like something I would write, lol.

It does point out the important issue about mid- low-tier UFC fighters having problems paying the bills as the UFC contracts more fighters and prevents them from fighting elsewhere during downtime.

I love Karo. And I don't mind fights like Jared Hamman vs. Rodney Wallace.. I guess my issue is more cutting people for no reason it seems..like Ben Saunders...
It makes sense to have a lot of guys in case of injuries and stuff..hmm i guess i dont have much of an opinion on it it except for cutting people who are facing hard comp and up and comers

Sometimes I disagree, but they seem to have a good handle on who has a chance and who doesn't. Dos Anjos was 0-2 and they let him come back for another bout, which made sense, and others have gotten the same treatment.

I think with Saunders, it's the idea that he was dominated by two wrestlers, two times in a row, and he's in a division of wrestlers. There were a few fights to make for him, but about half the division would repeat a Fitch or Hallman on him.

What? I don't agree with this at all. If they suck, they get released. If they win, they move up.

Let fighters make a living. Its good the UFC are giving more guys a chance to shine.

Svartorm » Posted 1/24/07 8:41:00PM

It's not a matter of "sucking". It's a matter of not being ready for elite-level competition. Gabe Ruediger doesn't suck as a fighter, but he's not elite level and will continue to get run over in the UFC.

Picking up guys who are not prepared for this level of competition, just to use them up and lower their value in the eyes of fans and talent scouts is fairly unethical in terms of the sport itself.
