Is There "A Little Chicken Left On That Bone" For Jens Pulver?   [View Full Version]
DCRage » Posted 8/3/07 12:38:00PM

He thinks so, and despite his loss at PWP War On The Mainland over the weekend, his 6th in a row and 8th in his last 9 fights, it seems that despite the many calls for him to retire he's still not ready to hang them up. "It's just a tough career man, you know I lose eight of nine fights, it's like 'What am I doing?' I'm trying to figure it out, maybe it's just that time. I don't know man, I do it because I love it. I enjoy training and I enjoy going out there and fighting. I feel good [but] it's definitely frustrating. You gotta hear the entrance song I came out to: 'A Little Chicken Left On That Bone' by Craig Morgan and that's exactly what it's about. Nobody's gonna tell me when to retire. Again, I got caught in a damn guillotine. I'm not getting knocked dead asleep and I feel physically great. I'm having a great time. I'm 34-years-old and I'm slumping, I'm slumping hard right now but I'm still having a great time. I love this life and I love this job."

its not like chuck liddell getting knocked out cold so i dont think his healths in danger. As long as people will pay him to fight and the fans are paying to see him why not keep fighting?

I think he just wants to win one or two more before he hangs them up, and as he said its not like hes getting put to sleep or beaten badly, but I would agree that he has to hang them up soon.

Can a professional go back to amateur status?

There might be one or two wins for him there.

I think that although hes a crafty vet, he should train bjj more.

Jens may be the godfather of the lightweight division
But man he really needs to retire. Losing 9 out of ten fights
Would be a wake up call for me

in fairness its only 8 out of 9

im a huge fan of the guy as a fighter and embassador for the sport, and im all for a guy hanging them up on his terms, but id like to just see him call it a career. hes right, hes not getting KO'd cold, but hes getting dropped in just about every fight and thats not a good sign. ideally he wins next time out and can go out on a high note with his head held high. this isnt the kind of streak you want to see a pioneer of the sport go out on.

I've changed my tone on this entire thing. Do whatever you want, Jens. Just don't be Favre about it. At least Jens is telling us what he's going to do and that there's nothing you can do about it. Rather this sort of attitude than Favre's.

i love jens to death, always been a fan since day 1 when i was way young and just started to follow mma. Honestly though, my answer is no, there is no chicken left on that bone, none, zip, nada. Hurts me to see him get beat like this. Jens please retire
