Alan Belcher Off UFN 22   [View Full Version]
DCRage » Posted 8/3/07 12:38:00PM

Next month's UFC Fight Night 22 event has lost its headlining fight. Alan Belcher is now off due to a detached retina in his right eye. He was to have faced Demian Maia, who he campaigned for a fight against. A replacement search is underway. According to Belcher, he began losing vision in his right eye, consulted doctors and recently underwent surgery in Alabama. He's now prohibited from contact sparring for six weeks, though he said he hopes to attend UFN 22.

And no, Chris Leben is not on any cards between now & then so let's see if he steps up again. I say he will.

Difficult seeing as how that fight was the main event.

Cote or Lawlor could pull off that fight.

OR former SF MW Champ Jakey Shields could step up to MW to face Maia(of course meaning no Kampmann fight). This would be my choice.

Outside chance it could've been a #1 contender fight, or at the very least it would've put the winner in such a fight. And this was a UFN too.

I don't think they should have Leben step in again, he should either wait for Wandy or get Nate in his next fight.

This sucks :( the winner of tonight's Munoz Vs Okami would be cool but will not happen what about Vitor ???

October return at the earliest and he' wants the Silva-Sonnen winner for the title.

If Leben steps up again and manages to beat Maia I would say that alone earns him a title shot. Though I don't see how him vs Anderson could possibly go different than the first time around.

Doesn't matter. I think Maia would tie him into knots. A guy who can throw Chael Sonnen who has submission skills like Maia can beat anyone. I think the fights with Nate and Anderson went the way they did because he got away from his roots. He used to try and get the fight to the ground with reckless abandon. Simultaneously diving for takedowns and trying to go for guard, cycling between the two, and repeating until he got it on the mat.

People always say "you can't be one dimensional in MMA." In his case I think adding a second dimension might have messed up his game. It gave him confidence in his striking which made him less urgent to get the fight down to the ground.

If he can forget about striking and get back that urgency I think he can beat any MW in the world, Anderson included.

I say winner of munoz vs okami for main card
I doubt leban takes this fight

This is why the UFC needs to re-sign Ruthless Robbie Lawler
