Former UFC welterweight number one contender Dan Hardy (23-7) will return to the Octagon in front of a hometown crowd when he clashes with former WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit (25-5) at the upcoming UFC 120 event tentatively scheduled for October 16 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

MMAWeekly brought word of the potential match up earlier today.

"The Outlaw" was last seen on the wrong end of a unanimous decision loss against 170-pound division champion Georges St. Pierre at UFC 111 back in March. The lopsided defeat to "Rush" was Hardy's first as a UFC employee.

Prior to his title shot the Brit racked up decision wins over Mike Swick, Marcus Davis and Akihiro Gono. His only stoppage inside the Octagon was a first round knockout over Rory Markham at UFC 95 in January 2009.

A convincing win over Condit might get him back into the title hunt just as a loss may send him tumbling back down the welterweight ladder.

I was one of the screaming British Columbians in the stands cheering against Condit, but the performance he put on in the third was one of the best

Sounds like a good fight. Thinking Hardy on this one but this match up sounds like a fun one to watch.

Great fight but I see Hardy taking this one by KO in the first, as I see Condit trying to stand with Hardy and that wont be the best idea for Condit.

If GSP couldn't finish Hardy in 5 rounds I figure there is almost no way Condit can do it. So either Condit takes a decision, or Hardy picks him apart, and either finishes it, or out points him in the stand up. I'll take Hardy in this one all day everyday, but it should be a very good fight. Quality win for either one of them.

Condit's been rocked in a few of his recent fights. I think Hardy doesn't give him the chance to recover and finishes the fight. Should be a good scrap though

Billy Madison-

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

Actually Condit is the exact opposite of GSP. Condit lays it all on the line in his fights. I guarantee you he wont lay on Dan if he gets him down. Condit will give up position to go for a flying armbar if he see the chance. I think Condit can take a UD possible sub but not likely if he plays it smart and takes Hardy down.

War Condit one of the most exciting fighters.

Im really surprised everyone just thinks Hardy is going to KO Condit in the first. I've never known that Dan Hardy had such One hitter quitter type power. He knocked out Rory Markham, thats about it.

Condit got blasted by Jake Ellenberger who has 1 shot KO power and survived, I think Condit is much, much more durable then people are giving him credit for.

It should be pretty exciting on the feet, and the ground game is advantageous to Condit. Both have putrid defensive wrestling so getting there backs to the mat shouldnt be too difficult (although I feel Dan Hardy wont shoot for a takedown). Even though Condit's wrestling isnt anything great, the clinch trips/etc should be there. Akihiro Gono took Dan Hardy down 3 times in there fight and got side mount/mount 3 times during the fight.

I'll say Condit shows off a little more well rounded gameplan and eeks out a close decision because I think he makes it a closer fight by standing and trading with Hardy the majority of the fight.

Soo is this the Big Fight Dana was talking about that will be free because of the A.Silva fight?

Condit will choose to stand. Hardy by TKO in 2nd.

Dan Hardy is way overrated IMO. I'm pretty sure any top or near the top WW can expose him. I wasn't impressed with his win over Marcus Davis. I think Davis's age is catching up with him and he's on his way out. Even then it was a very close fight and the decision EASILY could have gone the other way.

I think his fight with Swick had more to do with Swick being overrated and not taking Hardy seriously. Still, I'll give him the credit he deserves with that one because it was his best performance to date.

I think he's got better than average striking and power, poor wrestling, and a below average ground game.

I think Condit wins a UD or pulls off a sub sometime in the 2nd.

I'll go with Condit in this one... pretty confident in it as well.
