Posted 8/3/07 12:38:00PM Rener Gracie wants to use jiu-jitsu to help kids stand up to bullies while also learning self-defense and how to improve their self-esteem. Gracie has reached out to the Oprah Channel to pitch his idea for a reality show that would bring kids and teens in need to his Gracie Academy in Torrance, California, for training. You can watch his video audition and vote for him at Oprah.com. The show seems to be partly inspired by MTV's "Bully Beatdown" but apparently will not involve fighting or bullies being confronted. Posted 5/25/10 12:40:00PM Great idea for a show...it could be influential not only to kids but for adults as well.

gotta agree although it kind of defeats the purpose cause the bullies themselves could end up watching an learn just as much.potentially making the prob worse.

Posted 6/1/08 3:18:00PM I like this idea but Rener plugged the 'drug free family' thing a little too hard. Did Ryan Gracie test positive for marijuana and cocaine? I understand that they are largely drug free but that is something that Oprah could say weighed in to her decision not to move forward with this awesome idea. |
