Fish_Hook » Posted 12/11/09 1:38:00PM

Someone said in the post "where is big country in the mix" that Roy Nelson beat Frank Mir in submission grappling??? How did that happen? When? ANy video? Is that really true? I heard that and was blown away, so any info would help!

First, why does (in my own opinion) Frank Mir look in better shape then than he does now? Maybe he doesn't realize it, but physique has a lot to do with his potential success in the HW division.

Secondly, Excellent work by nelson, I couldn't help but feel that Mir was better throughout the entire thing though. I'll also admit that I'm not exactly a BJJ expert, that I'm a submission wrestler, so I wouldn't be the expert on whether Mir truly was better or not.

This did in fact happen and Im pretty sure im the one who said it. Check it out on you tube, they were competeing at Grapplers quest.

Big Country isnt to be fooled with.

The grading system is odd, they place value on take downs reversals and escapes it seems, i heard/saw nothing about ride time (time spent in dominant position) or points for sub attempts.....oh and Frank looks so differently because this is probably about 6 years old....he's younger in it.

Mir would probably demolish Nelson, but Nelson has a lot of hype for some high profile matches.

Mir would probably demolish Nelson.

I disagree, respectfully. I think Roy has always been underrated, I feel that Roy is an under looked opponent in the HW division. I mean Roy KO'd Struve quicker and easier than Dos Santos did, Roy basically finished him with one punch. Roy's grappling is some of the best due to his physical build, and his stand up is absolutely powerful, enough to give anyone problems. Mir is a great fighter but has showed recent flaws. Mirs stand up is technical, and powerful but Roy could easily match that power.

Not saying Roy would beat Mir, but this fight would be contested well. Mir would not "demolish" Nelson. Plus Mir has trouble when pressured, and Roy can defintiely put the pressure on. This fight would be great, and important to the division.

I think this is the next step for both guys. I dont see the UFC building Big country up slow and Frank needs a fight that he can try to win at least. I dont know who I would pick but it wouldn't go the distance either way
