Chuck Liddell: I Hope Jake Shields Signs With UFC   [View Full Version]
emfleek » Posted 11/18/07 4:54:00PM

Chuck Liddell, who hand-picked Jake Shields to be an assistant coach on Team Liddell for this season's The Ultimate Fighter 11, wants to see the Strikeforce middleweight champion make the long-awaited jump to the UFC.

"I hope he comes over to the UFC, it'd be great" Liddell said Monday on a TUF 11 conference call. "He's got a fight coming up soon at 185. He moved up to 185 ... He really needs to come back to his weight class (at 170), come back to the UFC and make a run at it there."

Liddell and Shields have ties from almost eleven years ago. Before Shields joined Cesar Gracie in 2001, Shields turned to Liddell's SLO Kickboxing Academy two years prior for his start in MMA.

I'd love to see it because I would get to watch him lose.

He's so boring to watch and since he is an effective fighter it would cost alot, doesn't make sense to me.

Well tune in to cbs on the April 17th and you'll get your wish when he squares off against Hendo!!!

I wouldn't mind seeing him in the ufc, but I think with the amount of strong wrestlers in the ufc shields will have problems getting fighters down to his bread and butter. That plus the lack of power in his hands I think he wouldn't be very succesful, but I would rather see the UFC bring in known fighters instead of guys that no one has heard of before and then they gas or get mauled in the first round. So, bring shields aboard UFC.

You wanna see him fight Jon Fitch, Thiago Alves and maybe Koscheck another 4 or 5 times each and then retire.

Noones gonna buy keep buying ppvs to see GSP fight people he already has multiple wins against. There has to be more competition at 170.

right, cuz new people never work their way up.

Also, I don't see Shields vs. GSP as a fight that makes any sense. That would be more one sided than any of the fights GSP has had in recent history because even though Shields is great on the g round his stand up is almost non-existent. I'd rather see him fight in strikeforce.
