The move by the three UFC competitors and Arizona State alums comes at a curious time as all are coming off the biggest wins of their careers. Bader defeated Keith Jardine via third round TKO at UFC 110, Dolloway took home a unanimous decision that same night against Goran Reljic and Simpson defeated Tom Lawlor at UFC Fight Night 20 in January.

If those guys become well rounded and get great cardio, big things will come to them.

First, Varner should just learn to shut his mouth.

I wonder if they are all going to find somewhere new to train together or go their seperate ways.

I can't wait for the details to come out.

Care to explain why?

"I've been at AZ combat for 6 years now this gym builds fighters from the ground up! None of those guys would be where they are with out there training partners and the Lallys! Some douche bags like to talk **** but our gym is battle tested and proven! When Riggs left he started losing and got cut from the UFC. When Fickett got kicked out he started losing and got kicked out of the UFC! I’m very interested to see what happens with those guys I wish them nothing but the best in there careers, but they made a HUGE mistake!"

Everything stated there is fact. Especially the Riggs and Fickett situation. The only thing that isn't FACT is whether or not they made a huge mistake.

Now as for these guys leaving AZ Combat Sports it's really too bad, but there's a lot of stuff that goes on behind closed doors that people have no idea about. In the end I hope these guys stick together because they've had some amazing success as a trio and they all have big things ahead of them.

I wouldn't be surprised if they left because of Varner, lol

I don't know, it seems like a pretty good move to me. I don't know anything about what's happening behind the scenes, but I know AZCS is a school who's biggest teaching strength is probably wrestling, and none of these guys need to be focusing on their wrestling. Moving to a school that is more well known for their strikers and/or BJJ players could be the best possible move for these guys, helping them to round out their game more quickly, because we already know they're all pretty fantastic wrestlers.

This is a big loss for ACS but all of these guys have worlds of potential and im sure wherever they choose to go, they will be succesful.

Not true at all, but a common misconception. It is the students who are the phenomenal wrestlers at AZCS. Todd and Trevor Lally are the head coaches, who are both kickboxing specialists (K-1 and Shooto fighters from back in the day)... and Gustavo Dantas is a world renowned BJJ black belt. With those 3 as teachers wrestling is actually the very last strength of the coaches at AZCS.

And besides, its an unfortunate reality that most guys like to train what they're already good at. It would also make sense for Brock Lesnar to join a high level BJJ school but that didn't happen either.

But on a side note, I'd want to get away from Jamie Varner too.

big blow to arizona combat
wonder if they will have targets on there back now

BustedKnuckle » Posted 9/2/09 5:48:00PM

Damn thats a lot of talent leaving all at once. All three should evolve into great MMA fighters. Cant wait to see Bader again for sure

Sad to see such an ignorant post from someone who normally posts good stuff. You have no idea what kind of a person he is or if his teammates leaving has anything at all to deal with Varner. I could be wrong but judging from all of your other posts I've seen I had thought you a bit more mature than that.

Could be good could be bad is how I see it. I don't think any fighter should stay with one team forever. I think this causes guys to not evolve and not reach their full ability. But same time have these guys really learned everything they can from this team? But as long as they go to another good team I think it will work out but if they go off on their own and start their own team I think it will end up bad.

I'm interested to see where they are going to go. Then we can see if it was a bad move or not. It's impossible to say it was bad at this point. Very suprised though as they seemed to love the place and it's in close transit but man caught off guard with this. Very excited to see where these guys go and I'm pretty sure they will be sticking together.
