"At some point Fedor's going to have to step up and be willing to fight top level guys again. I don't know what's going on with him or why he's not willing to do that and certainly (Fabricio) Werdum is one of those guys he's going to have to face to be considered a top fighter."

stop reading my mind Captain America

Menard_StC » Posted 1/24/07 7:02:00PM

Top guys like Fabricio Werdum, #2 AA, top 10 Brett Rogers, or top 10 Tim Sylvia?

Agreed. But why bother saying it when it's exactly what he's been doing. Fedor's last 3 fights have been against more impressive competition then any other HW in MMA.

Mir is 2-1 with 1 win being barely top 20 Kongo.
Brock fought Heath Herring, barely top 20.
Carwin has never fought a top 10, although gonzaga is a good win.
Cain has 2 good wins and a bunch of cans.

Etc etc..... people who say he needs to fight top competition are simply making **** up, because the fact is not only is he fighting top competition, he's fighting better competition then anyone else at HW. Of course, SF is not very deep and he will run out of challengers soon... but it hasn't happened yet.

Are those words seriously coming out of the mouth of Randy Couture? The so-called 'legend' who has recently barely beat the likes of Brandon Vera, and a lifeless Mark Coleman?

Last I checked Brett Rogers was still listed among the top 5 or 6 ranked heavyweights in the world which is a lot higher than the unranked Couture who can no longer compete in the heaviest division...

Giant_Ochai » Posted 5/19/09 7:57:00PM

Randy should go and take out Fedor's management team because Fedor isn't scared to fight anyone the UFC could throw at him.

Personally I don't think Fedor has a choice in the matter. I think Fedor is being kept away from the UFC.

Except there's no way in hell that AA, Tim Silvia, or Brett Rogers are top ten. Arlovski and Silvia used to be. Then they washed out of the UFC.

The fact of the matter is the UFC has the best competition and you're tested with every fight. Until Fedor is in the UFC we'll never know if he's still the fighter he was in Pride.

aa and sylvia were top 10-based on previos victories. Neither Sylvia or AA has looked the same since they were in the ufc. Sylvia got ko'd by Ray Mercer, who kimbo submitted!
Fedor is fighting better guys, but its taking forever, and SF has few top guys.

for fedor to be really the best hw he would have to beat 2 or 3 of these fighters now while they are hot, not 5 years from now

cain
mir
Lesnar
JR. Dos Santos
Carwin
or even a fighter who maybe overated imo, but its hard to know b ased on his weak opponents
Overeem.

wins over 3 of those guys will prove he currently still the best HW.

I'm content to see Fedor against the other heavy weights in strikeforce....but basically just get it going.

AA and Tim Slyvia were both still ranked top 10 when Fedor fought them.
Neither one should be now,but at that time they were.
They didn't suddenly drop off the radar once they left the UFC.
Brett is on most (maybe all) top 10 list across the board.
I can't really argue with you since ratings are subjective for the most part.
But alot of people would argue with you on that point.

I can see were Randy is coming from to an extent.
Fedor has certainly found enough top HW's to take on outside of the UFC,but after Werdum it looks like his biggest option are either Overeem or a rematch with Rogers.

Are you serious? Brett 'The Grim' Rogers was UNDEFEATED heading into the bout with Fedor, 9-0 with NINE KNOCKOUTS including a 22 second classic over a former UFC heavyweight champion in Arlovksi! You won't find a respectable rankings system that has Rogers outside of the top 10...

Rogers never needed UFC as Strikeforce smartly threw a better deal his way after the EliteXC takeover and he turned into one of the best fighter stories around (guy changing tires at Sam's club fighting the #1 heavyweight in the world?!?!?) and I just think its an atrocity to deny him top status...

The guy went two rounds with FEDOR and BROKE HIS NOSE! Out of the 30+ guys who have stepped in against The Last Emperor how many lasted more than 1 round? 5? Maybe 10? Fedor himself even said Rogers has the hardest punches he's ever faced... oh man you got me gassed up!

Randy is obviously still trying to cash in on a fight with Fedor..... aint gonna happen Captain America, you're no longer the champ, wont ever be the champ again, and with your past couple fights, earned yourself a spot on the bottom of the fedor hit list, Im all for fedor fighting top level guys......but does randy think he's one of them?

Brett Rogers was 9-0 with all of his wins coming against no-bodies. His single impressive win (the one over Andrei Arlovski) was tainted by the fact that Arlovski is a shadow of his former self. AND even if Arlovski was still the terror he used to be, landing one good punch (even winning one good fight) does not instantly vault you into the MMA Top Ten. Maybe it could have back when the Heavyweight divsion was thin, but with all the killers out there now-a-days there is no way in hell Brett Rogers is a top ten fighter.

So than why does shane carwin deserve to be in the top 10? his biggest win is over gonzaga.....
