Overeem: "When UFC term are right,I will sign right away"   [View Full Version]
RhythmAndStyle » Posted 1/25/08 3:12:00PM

Dutch heavyweight Alistair Overeem says he would sign with UFC right away if offered the right terms. He and the UFC have negotiated before - he was cageside at UFC 93 in Dublin - but have never come to terms. Interestingly, he also says that money is not the sticking point.

Well, im sure given enough money Overeem would sign right away, however I think the sticking point would be the exclusive contract.

Over the past year Overeem has been fairly active, with roughly 3 MMA fights in the past 3 months, with 4 Kickboxing matches as well during the span of 2009. I do not think he would get near 7 fights within the year with the UFC, or even half of that if he were to join strictly with the UFC. True, he probably would get more money per fight, but he could possibly make more money while being active in actual competition - not just training (if that makes sense).

Sergei Kharitonov is another example, exclusive contacts are not everybodies preference.

Is drug testing a sticking point? Because that's not up to them....

Actually, Overeem makes more money fighting K-1 than he will ever make fighting mma.
From what I have heard from him, he still wants to focus on mma, but the $$ he gets for being the heel in k-1 is just too good.

i would love to see overeem in the mix with the UFC's heavyweights but the thing about the ufc it seems like once a fighter signes with the UFC they're kinda stuck, overeem would probablty have to give up K-1. he might not care though. just a thought

If he fought Fedor and pulled off a win, the money from the UFC might be right.
