Denis Kang, Brock Larson and others released from their UFC contracts   [View Full Version]
ThaAxeMurderer7 » Posted 1/16/08 9:55:00PM

Multiple sources report that the UFC brass has issued a latest batch of pink slips: The most high-profile castoff of the bunch is none other than the former top 10 middleweight, Denis Kang.

Kang recorded a remarkable 23-fight undefeated streak from 2003 to 2006 in such organizations as Pride FC and Spirit MC. Since then, he has dropped five of nine fights to opponents such as Kazuo Misaki, Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Gegard Mousasi.

As one of the most prized acquisitions by UFC this year, he has not lived up to the lofty hype: His UFC record stands at 1-2, with a decison win over Xavier Foupa-Pokam sandwiched between dispiring losses to Alan Belcher in his promotional debut and to Michael Bisping at UFC 105.

He is reportedly in talks with several promotions in the US and abroad. As devastating a cut from UFC roster may be for Kang, he has numerous options, such as following Dan Henderson to Strikeforce or going back to Japan where he made his name as one of the premier welterweights in Pride FC.

Larson cut is old news, that happened a while back. Not surprised about Liu Kang, he was a borderline bust.

Kang hasn't been the same since Misaki beat him.

No surprises here.
This gives a chance for better fighters or up and comers to join the ranks of the premiere MMA organazation.

I wouldn't mind seeing these guys in strikeforce.

Actually he hasnt been the same since the love of his life Shelby Walker overdosed (possibly suicide). It happened after the Suloev fight, going 5-5 since that point.

Depressed that Kang couldn't make it work. I didn't know about the girlfriend either. Thats sad maybe this cut will motivate him and give him the drive needs to succed.

KingCreep » Posted 11/16/07 8:52:00AM

it really is too bad for kang, i had high expectations for him but he has some soul searching to do before he can make it back to the top.

also hits close to home for me because it's another canadian cut after a loss to a TUF3 winner, which begs the question; how high does the ufc hold their TUF3 winners? i only ask because it seems like if you can't beat one of them, you get cut. unless of course, you're a huge draw, for better or for worse.

i am a tad shocked kang got released
but i do see him going back to japan

To bad for kang and I didn't know about the girlfriend. Thats unfortunate because he has a lot of talent. Personal stuff can really mess you up inside the ring, see Vitor Belfort.

paddy260 » Posted 11/13/07 10:55:00AM

mannnnnnn kang is sooooo dissapointing i love the guy but someone needs to tell him that there are 3 rounds in a fight not 1

ncordless » Posted 4/8/07 11:09:00PM

It is too bad that Kang tenure in the UFC didn't pan out, but I'd still take him against a lot of the guys the UFC has on their roster.
