Werdum Could Face Antonio Silva On 11/7 SF Event   [View Full Version]
DCRage » Posted 8/3/07 12:38:00PM

In a recent interview with the TATAME website, Fabricio Werdum said he could be facing former EliteXC Heavyweight Antonio Silva at the 11/7 Strikeforce event. Werdum says they agreed to the fight but he feels it might not happen due to his thinking Silva will fight again for Sengoku, but Werdum's manager thinks it'll happen on 11/7.

Isn't it getting to be a little too late for rumors now? If they're going to do it, they need to do it now. We're less than 4 weeks away from the event...

You're right, FINALIZE this friggin card. I like this fight though and this should be a strong card considering we get Shields/Miller, Fedor/Rogers and a Gegard fight. I can see UFC putting something up against this, most likely 104 on replay?

I thought Silva couldn't get a licence in the US, due to fighting overseas during his steroid suspension. Anyone know the status of his suspension?

It's over, I believe it ended in July or August (it was one year retroactive to the fight date) so he is eligible to at least re-apply for a license in the US.

I would love for this fight to happen but I don't think it will. Silva fought in Japan during his suspension, which is now up, and he will have to get the California State Athetic Commission to license him to fight.

This is the same commission notorious for shady "random" drug tests and for holding a grudge. I say they find a way not to license Bigfoot and we all get screwed. Thanks California State Athletic Commission, first you fold Affliction, then you cost us Diaz vs. Hieron for the Strikeforce WW title, now this. Hopefully Strikeforce finds a more entertaining replacement matchup than Jesse Taylor this time.

Awesome! great way foe Werdum to make his way back to the top. I think he destroys Antonio.

This is gonna be a good fight if/when it happens. I think Silva takes it (Werdum hasn't impressed me lately). As far as whether or not he'll be able to fight, Keith Kizer (head of Nevada State AC) has said that it probably wouldn't be a problem until you reapply in the state the infraction occurred.

Actually, the current head of the CSAC also has stated that it's cool if he follows the rules.

“There is no action pending against Mr. Silva nor is any contemplated … he is clear to fight in California or any other state as long as he fulfills all other requirements.”
