WOW, best pick ever....cripples SF LHW Div IMO, The UFC is going to have to let go of some of their LHWs soon....IDK maybe this is how they will monopolize the game!

seriously...Strikeforce is going to have to do a hell of a job building up some unknowns...I think Bellator style tournaments are their only chance...at least in that particular weight class.

I was wondering why this hadn't happened yet, I'm excited.

What a pleasant suprise

The UFC will have to get rid of some of their heavyweights. They can't support that many guys and give them fights. They'll just cut some guys who they don't think can make money or have had a couple 'boring' outings.

love it another addition to the most stacked division in the ufc. This division doesn't have any guys that specialize in jiu jitsu now that bablu is gone, he will be a huge test for a division loaded with heavy handed strikers.

LOL... man... UFC has definitely shifted their cross hairs onto Strikeforce's head. Great signing by the UFC. Should have happened LONG ago

sclasclemski » Posted 3/28/09 12:47:00PM

you mean Light heavies...I don't see why they don't just try and put on more events...they have to make some money on the spike shows...why not put on one of those every month and a ppv...that way they can support more fighters...not to mention build up the lesser known guys on free tv so people will want to pay to watch them on ppv...I also think the idea of a weekly live show (friday night fights) featuring only newbies would be a great thing...if they did all these things they would just get that much closer to closing the monopoly...then the fighters just need to unionize and then MMA will reflect other major sports and there won't need to be people worrying about where the best will go...just head to the UFC and get the big contracts and the big fights...OK bring on the Hate

GrandMaster313 » Posted 6/9/07 7:01:00PM

Wow kinda funny how they sign Tito again and now Lil Nog..........

jae_1833 » Posted 7/19/07 11:27:00AM

It sure did save Tito the whoopin' of a lifetime at the hands of Babalu....or now maybe he will get it at the hands of Lil Nog! Either one takes him easily IMO.

telnights » Posted 6/21/07 4:17:00PM

They are putting on more events every year and already have 1-2 shows a month. Its not something you do over night and takes time. You have to really take in to account what all goes in to putting on a event or fight night. You just cant say were having an event there is a lot of over head that goes in to it and cost. Now that's not to say I don't want more MMA but you also have to be realistic. No MMA org has even come close to putting on as many events as the UFC does. Last year alone they had 20 events some free some PPV. Now if you avg event has 10 fights per card that is 20 fighters per event. That means they had over 200 fights. That's huge amount of fights. You also have to think that means 400 times last year a fighter fought. The UFC keeps about 200 fighters under contract. That means every fighter the UFC has fought at least 2 times last year. With your avg fighter fighting around 2-3 times a year. You also have to think about some fighters get injured, suspended, or just go stupid. They already have TUF to bring in new talent which also is more free fights. They have the WEC on top of that. Which is really picking up the number of shows it puts on. The WEC only put on 6 events last and are on par to put on 8 to 9 this year. This year they have already put on 5 shows. That is 50 more fights right there. Now I think with time you will see more shows and if the UFC gets a network TV deal that number will go up even more. But the UFC is smart about how it does things and unlike a lot of other promotions takes its time to build up things.
