James Irvin has beed forced to withdraw from his scheduled middleweight debut against Wilson Gouveia, which was to take place on August 29 at UFC 102 in Portland, Oregon, after suffering what is being called a “massive” knee injury.

From radio host Carmichael Dave on The Underground:

Sacramento based fighter James Irvin has suffered another massive setback in his oft-injured career, this time with a massive knee injury.

He will obviously not be able to face Wilson Gouveia at UFC 102.

Irvin is expected to undergo reconstructive surgery sometime in the next few days, and is also expected to miss 6-10 months.

WTF!! I love his fights but everytime I think he will be getting on track there is some injury or other thing holding him back! I'm kind of shocked the UFC hasn't given him a pink slip for it.

i was looking forward to this fight
now it is ed herman still a good matchup but my pick for winner got a whole lot easier!!

That sucks for Irvin. It seems like he just can't keep himself healthy.

Ed Herman will be alright, but I'd have rather seen Irvin v. Gouvia just for the style match up.
