The a very close bout of UFC 93, both have looked impressive in their last fights, they are probably in a must win situation here especially Mendes so look for a finish either way.

I'm taking Ravishing Red by a submission. I think this fight will look very similar to Schafer vs Houston Alexander.

Mendes by KO first round

after seeing what Mendes did to Thiago Silva in their fight (granted he lost) i have to go with Mendes round 1 KO.

I was very impressed with Mendes in the fight with Thiago. I think that he will knock Shafer out, just not sure when.

watch out for mendes hes no joke, knockout of the night candidate

Khaos » Posted 6/27/07 8:20:00PM

I think it'll be identical to te Houston fight, he'll last through a beating ealry, and the sub him in round one.

Classic Grappler vs Striker match. I say Mendes takes this one. Fierce with his kicks and knees. TKO 2nd

TheNatural915 » Posted 11/14/08 3:23:00PM

Don't count Mendes out. He is a POWERFUL striker and if he has worked on his ground game he could be a real serious threat in the light heavyweight division.

Mendes has very good standup and if Eric can't take him down he's screwed. I love these grappler vs. striker matchups, very interesting.

Mendes by KO first round

Mendes is not Alexander. So don't expect the same. Alexander has standing power. Thats all. He's the single stiffest athlete I've ever seen in my life. Horrible movement/footwork. Mendes will be a lot more elusive, and able to avoid Red's takedowns. Rather that Schafer vs Houston, expect to see more like Bisping vs Schafer. Only if Schafer can weather an early storm and get Mendes tired will he win it.

prozacnation1978 » Posted 7/5/07 11:42:00PM

it's simple it hits the ground red wins it stands up mendes knocks him out, i do think mendes will come out firing though

I disagree with most (actually everyone in the poll), Mendes takes a Decision. I think it will be evenly paced with both guys getting it to their preferred place for the fight for minutes at a time and Mendes avoiding the sub and slowly wearing Schafer down, as Schafer avoids the TKO. I guess we'll see.

If I was 50 years younger I'd kick your ass!
