Frank Edgar vs Matt Wiman UFC Fight for the Troops   [View Full Version]
MMAcca » Posted 4/30/07 3:11:00PM

There’s a an exciting lightweight clash between Frank Edgar (9-1) and Matt Wiman brewing for UFC Fight Night 16: “Fight for the Troops” at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C., on December 10.

MMAmania.com recently learned about the potential 155-pound bout; however, bout agreements have not been signed (though have been distributed to both fighters).

Edgar recently rebounded from the first professional loss of his career to Gray Maynard (unanimous decision) at UFC Fight Night 13 to outpoint former number one contender Hermes Franca on all three judges scorecards at UFC Fight Night 14: “Silva vs. Irvin” in July.

The latter bout was dubbed the “Fight of the Night,” earning Edgar and Franca each an additional $25,000 for their performances. It came as no surprise — Edgar is often involved in action-packed battles.

And the match up with “Handsome” should be no different.

I cannot see Wiman winning, but he did beat Tavares, I do not think Edgar will stand with him, probably a lot like the Fisher vs Edgar fight.

Wiman has become a very different fighter from when he was on TUF. Running through Tavares was no small feat.
I don't think one can tell what's going to happen here, obvioulsy Edgar is going into this as a favorite (point-wise), but we'll have to wait and see exactly how much Wiman has changed and if he'll have Liddell in his corner again? Which must have been a bit of a confidence booster for the guy.

Wiman was too comfortable being on his back against Tavarez, and I see edgar getting a decision on him working him on the ground.

he did not run through Tavares it was an even fight, Tavares might have even been ahead on points and Edgar has beaten Griffin and Fisher, I want Wiman to win but I cannot see that happening.

I hope wiman is an underdog because I am taking wiman for another win! This will be another big win for him.

edgar takes wiman down, wiman gets back up, edgar takes him down again, repeat repeat. wiman will have to pull of a sub from his back if he wants to win this fight.

Wiman has improved so much since TUF and he did great against tavares i think he will be the underdog in the fight, but i believe he will get the win.

This is going to be the toughest fight of wimans career in my opinion. If he can pull this one off I will be completely surprised. I see Frankie winning this one via unanimous decision, but I would rather see Wiman pull it off. This fight is going to be a war both of these guys are tough ass mofo's!!!!

I wouldnt count Wiman out completely. He should have a nice reach advantage and he definitely has KO power. I think he will definitely get taken down, but in his last fight his Jiu-Jitsu looked really great and that was against a Jits guy in Tavares. Frankie has good sub defense but if he gets sloppy, I wouldnt be suprised to see Wiman catch him or at least get back up to his feet. I think it will be a good fight and not a lnp snooze fest.
