Saw that Gomi was still #3 Lightweight on our site... Thought of this match.

I see Edgar taking it.

Fireball Kid via TKO GnP

Edgar is the next best thing at LW, just still a little scared to see if he could handle BJ's sick BJJ.

Will pick Edgar though. Edgar just GNP'd Fisher because he lost confidence in his stand up after owning Bocek but getting rocked towards the end which I think happened because he didn't take his(bockek's) stand up seriously. I think if he builds that confidence back up it will be a great fight to watch on the feet.

But I'm taking Edgar by 3rd round TKO in a 3rd round UFC fight or 2nd RD TKO in a PRIDE rules fight. Cardio is the main factor to me and it's just something Gomi does not have and Edgar does have a little bit more/

I really like Edgar and think he is a real up and comer, but don't think standing with Gomi is in his best interests...

This would be the toughest fight of his career, and the only way I really see him winning is by submission.... maybe GnP, but I'd lean toward sub or dec

Gomi has better standup. Edgar has the better wrestling but I think Edgar gets caught with a left right combination and Gomi jumps on top to finish the job. Gomi by TKO in the second

Mayhem13 » Posted 6/28/07 1:10:00AM

people tend to forget how good Gomis wrestling is...he just doesnt really need to use it (sort of like Chuck)..

I think Gomi's biggest weakness in this fight would be his endurance...if it goes to a decision Edgar may take it...

but I think Gomi would stop him in the 2nd TKO

bullettdodger » Posted 8/26/07 10:38:00PM

Gomi RD 1 TKO/KO, everytime Edgar tries to clinch he will eat lefts and rights.

Gomi with a gas tank is the best fighter at LW...yes even against BJ Penn. i believe that Gomi will work on his cardio after that Diaz fight and will be able to hang in there in the later rounds against the wrestlers and JJ guys. i think that at this point Edgar is a solid fighter but people tend to blow up what he has accomplished. i wouldn't rank him in the top 5 LW right now and i won't until he faces BJ Penn or Sean Sherk because the rest of the top 5 are not in the UFC imo. Edgar is good, but his best win is over Tyson Griffin who is another over hyped fighter with potential. i think that Edgar has the potential to be a top 5 LW, but potential won't win you fights. if Edgar faced off against Gomi i would see Gomi KOing him in the 1st or 2nd. no one hits harder then Gomi at LW and i don't think Edgar would be able to just wrestle out a decision against Gomi.

I see Edgar as a prime example of the new breed of lighter weight MMA fighter--a guy with a wrestling base who takes up MMA at a young age (not relying solely on wrestling) and works at a very fast pace on the feet and on the ground. Guys in this group--like Huerta, Guida, Griffin and Edgar--have largely been fighting themselves and they don't have the blowout wins and the aura that the previous generation of fighters does--guys like Penn, Pulver and Gomi. But I think people are going to be surprised how hard it is for anyone to keep pace with them and that includes some of the old guard.

I know Gomi is a logical pick, but my gut tells me Edgar would make a statement.

That's a bold statement. Especially since Penn has already choked out Gomi.

I would love to see them fight again though.

we are gonna have to change these "dream matches" to "fantasy matches" or something...for a split second I thought this was gonna happen...in DREAM

till I realized Dana wouldnt co-promote a match even if it meant saving the endangered dolphins or something like that...

I like Penn, but Gomi is one of my favourite fighters.

And Penn Vs Gomi now would be the same as last time pretty much. BJ Penn nickname is not just a nickname. He is in fact a prodigy (in my opinion).

BJ Penn beats everyone at LW, as long as he makes weight.

As for Edgar Gomi, I think Gomi would take it. Edgar is NOT KOing Gomi (If you doubt this, search Gomi Iron Chin in google videos or youtube). He might submit him, but I don't know how good Edgar's BJJ is. I think it's a close fight, maybe 65 35 in Gomi's favour to win by GNP or KO.

I think Edgar beats Sean Sherk after one or two more fights (for experience). But he won't beat Penn, not unless there is some radical transformation.

I defienitely think that Edgar is a young up and comer and is a great LW, but the Fireball Kid will TKO him 2nd round IMO if they fight.
