Although we will not release any fight results from the show (we never post fight spoilers), we will reveal a fairly significant change in the way this season works.

According to a source close to the show, “The Ultimate Fighter 7” will start with 32 cast members — not the usual 16 — and every one of them will have to fight as soon as the show begins. The 16 winners earn a spot in the house, and the 16 losers are sent packing for home.

The likely format change should be warmly received by critics of the show who complain that the series focuses more on the drama and in-house antics than it does training and the actual fights. Additionally, many of the show’s weaker cast members will likely be eliminated before they’re even technically a part of the cast, assuring that only the cream of the crop are in the house for the duration of the show

Unfortunately, we have no information on how the initial match-ups might be determined

I'm down with that...plus more fights to see.

I think the change will help the show a lot.

That is sweet. I always like to see as many fights as possible. Not to mention weeding out the weakest fighters is a good way to start.

Makes sense to me. The show should be more about fighting, more like a tournament and less like Mtv's the Gauntlet. MMA is a sport. We want to see fights and less drama. The initial 32 fighters sounds great.

good way to keep the "not-so-good" out

Sounds good, but do you know what would be even better.

If the 16 initial losers become the "UFC Construction Crew" and tear down that stupid house before the show starts. That way the 16 winners wont get in stupid drama and can focus on training and fighting.

That would be what is best for the show

I really like this change I am really getting tired of the surreal life wanna be that TUF is becoming

show me the fights show me the training save the drama for WWE

and this should get rid of the Ritchie Hightowers, I cant stand weasels

DustinT » Posted 7/17/07 4:29:00PM

does this mean an extended season?

wouldn't you have to push more episodes to fit all this in?
hrmmm

Sounds good. Does that mean no more guys like Bowman haha jk. this season should be good.

This looks like the best season yet. 32 fighters to start with. Rampage and Forrest as the coaches. Forget the drama making the show; the comic relief provided by the coaches should be enough.

Not only is this a great idea, but some of the fighters that they are signing are already known in the game. Let's just hope that somebody like CB Hollaway or Paul Bradley loses on the first day. But it should be great.

Just like with every new idea there is a upside and downside of this change. I agree with everyone about making the show more about fighting and training and less about showing these fighters as drunken pranksters and idiots. Dana White should now how hard it was to get this sport supported by congress, there defense was that the sport was not as brutal as congress portrayed it. I used to love the show when it first came out with real class act fighters, but now all you see is 16 drunken guys breaking shit and pulling pranks on each other. Every professional fighter knows when you train for a fight you should not be boozing and goofing around and should be focused on the fight and fighter you will be facing.

I like the fact that all these fighters have to fight and prove themselves before getting to become a cast member, but also think that is an unfare advantage for unexperienced fighters who are good athletes but get submitted for lack of experience. Also some of the favorites could be knocked out before they get a chance to get better and you could have a really weak casted show.

what a concept.. more focus on the training and fighting.. sounds like a kick ass TUF ta me.. to be completely honest i would DVR TUF just so i could skip all the high school drama BS and get to the fights quicker.. maybe i'll be able to watch it @ the time it airs on tv now..
