Mixed martial artist Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone failed his post-fight drug test at last week's WEC 30 event, according to the NSAC. Cerrone tested positive for Hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic that can be used by athletes to assist in weight-cutting by impeding the kidney's water-retaining capabilities. It can also be used to treat medical conditions such as high blood pressure and congestive heart failure.

Looking at the picture of him in the article, he does look like he had to cut a lot of weight to get down to 155 for the fight, which is probably why he took the banned substance. His left abdominal area just looks too unnatural compared to the rest of his midsection.

wow i didnt even know diuretics were illegal. i thought it was very common for fighters to take them. they are in the some of the over medicines. the counter bladder infection medicines. kinda cool. i took some once when i thought i had a bladder infection but unfortunately it was the clap...

They're banned because its an illegal (and dangerous) way to cut weight, and they can be used to flush out your system and hide that you were taking other banned substances.
If you remember, Alves was busted for diaretics after his last fight as well.
