lets say sherk gets stripped, who do you think would be the top four ranked lightweights that would fight in a tourney.

at this point i would say:
1. bj
2. stevenson
3. florian
4. din thomas

i think these are the top four, number 5 gets really complicated i think a number of guys could be slotted in there like pellegrino, fisher, guida, griffin, edgar and tavares. in other words the lightweight division is a really tough one to gauge.

Man I wish Jens was still in UFC. The division would be so much more interesting. I mean can you imagine him vs. BJ for a vacated title? Oh well...

I'm aware I remember. i'm just saying that if the title is going to be vacated i'd love to see those two go again. And I think they are the most recognizable names in the division along with Sherk.

The winner, runner up and 3rd place in the HERO'S MWGP would all win the title in the UFC.

EDIT: Assuming Black Mamba's replacement doesn't win... lol

BJ? for sure
Joe? Definately
KENNY? wtf???
Din? Hell no.

frank edger and roger huerta deserve it more than din or kenny.

However i would pick mach and winner of frank vs huerta

I wouldn't count out Ken-Flo yet. He hung in with Sherk, and he's looked GREAT in his fights since then.

But, since he had his shot recently, I would agree that others may get a chance first. The LW division is stacked, though....perhaps a LARGE tournament to get to set up a title match would be in order. It could start with a Spike TV free card, with 8 lw fights.

Calvancanti, Uno, and Ribiero would all be excellent additions to the UFC, but I'd pick Sherk or Penn against any of them. I think those three would be in the same "tier" as Florian, Franca, Thomas, Guida, Griffin, Fisher, Huerta and Stevenson.

i like huerta, but i cant put him in that top teir until he fights another top fighter, all of the fighters i listed in the top teir of lightweights have all fought a top guy with the exception of thiago tavares but he is fighting griffin soon. huerta has not. plus i have my doubts about him, he looks great some times but also looks really sloppy, i think he needs to fight one of the top fighters i listed to be put in their category. personally i think all of the guys i listed, (penn, stevenson, florian, pellegrino, din thomas, guida, griffin, edgar and tavares), can all beat huerta. i dont know if they are better than him because huerta hasnt been tested yet, but i think they have the tools to beat him.

Uno and Penn are very equal in skills, as proven in their last Lightweight Championship bout. Plus JZ and Shaolin are actually much better than most of the mentioned names IMHO.

Don't get me wrong, I thing Huerta is a great fighter, but he is at least 2 fights away from a title fight.
Florian still has to be ranked much higher than him, and in higher contention for a title shot.

Huerta has only fought guys in the UFC that were making their UFC debut (currently a 1-6 total UFC record).

Assuming that nobody knows what the heck is up with BJ, I would say that Florian/Stevenson should get a shot at the vacant belt.

I would even rank Fisher above Huerta.

I think a good next fight for Huerta would be against Jorge Gurgel or Thiago Tavares.
