Brandon Vera wants to apologize to his fans, friends, and family, and he says he’ll make it in the Octagon on October 20. That’s when the 29-year-old San Diego native will face former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia at UFC 77 “Hostile Territory” at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, the first of six fights Vera has penned with the bursting organization.

I RARELY am a Tim Sylvia supporter, but I think and hope that Tim rips through Vera.

It will be a interesting match. If Sylvia fights like he fought Cabbage, he has chance but otherwise he will get KTFO....

I dont think he could beat Vera even if that Tim Sylvia that fought Cabbage showed up.

Vera's kickboxing is off the charts and Vera can take a hit. Even on the ground his BJJ is world class so he can get you there as well. Last I checked Sylvia has next to no skills on the ground.

Last you checked lol? Sylvia held his own against Monson on the ground, and didn't get submitted or knocked out by Couture after spending the whole fight on his back. Granted that neither Monson nor Couture is a submission specialist, I still believe that Sylvia's ground game is significantly underrated.

Vera's kick-boxing is off what charts? Vera is a wrestler with some decent grappling. Yes, he has good stand-up for a submission guy, but I still want to know which charts you are looking up.

Monson's not a submission specialist??????? 14 of his 23 wins are by submission. He's a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, where he trains with American Top Team. He won the Abu Dhabi Submission Grappling World Tournament Heavy Weight Division in 2005 and also won his division in the tournament in 1999, where he got the nickname "Snowman." The Brazilian fighters at the tournament gave him the nickname because he came in as an unknown but beat 4 Brazilians in a row to win the 88-98 kilogram weight class. As he went along in the tournament and continued to beat his opponents, they said he was like a snowball (white, compact, and rolling and getting bigger and stronger as the tournament went on) He is a multiple event winner at NAGA and Grapplers Quest and the Budweiser Invitational.

Vera is too quick. He will be able to outstrike (punches and kicks) Timmy, then take him to the ground and then will choke him out. Round 2 submission. Nighty Night, Tim!
