In the aftermath of Mirko Cro Cop’s devestating KO loss to Gabriel Gonzaga there was a great deal of speculation about the way the Croatian striking specialist prepared for the bout.

Fedor and Gonzaga have shown that to defeat Cro-Cop you need to engage and keep constant pressure on him to eliminate the kicks. The addition of muay thai to his arsenal will make opponents hesitant to apply that pressure as a Cro-Cop knee from clinch has the potential to be more devastating than the high leg kick. I just hope he doesnt bite Kongo's nose off in guard.

Yeah the key to taking the fight away from Cro cop is press the action, dont let cro cop push you and make you back up. Press the action on him and make him back up and fight.

Wandy didn't have the strength to "bully" Cro Cop.

i didn't see any fights with cro-cop and josh barnett, but i am assuming that josh pushed the pace and tried to submit him? i mean josh isn't a pussy.

anyways fedor said so himself, cro-cop wasn't ready for that fight, he was sloppy.

simply pushing the pase isn't enough, gonzaga caught a leg kick and took him down, normally cro cop sets up his leg kicks but for some reason he just telegraphed it..

oh and wandy was the same wieght as cro-cop, even a bit bigger, so i seriously doubt it was "strength"

Never heard about Fedor saying CC wasn't ready and was sloppy source? Fedor did say that CC was his hardest fight though

CC lost because he gassed, not because he was sloppy (although I guess you could say he wasn't ready because his cardio was not good enough). A CC with cardio would take Fedor...look at round 1.If he could keep that up for 2 more he would have Fedor dazed from left straights and combos and leg kicks, then lights out. Fedor would definitely not be taking him down nearly at will.

What I don't get about Silva is why didn't he go for takedown? BJJ blackbelt. Could have tried to catch CC like Nog (not likely, but better chances then striking with a top kickboxer!)

I feel bad for Kongo though...he's definitely not ready for CC. He could have used some top 10 wins first (if he could capture them).

Bob Sapp, Remy Bonjasky, Josh Barnett, Aleks, Wand, were all pretty damn agressive and tried to take away space. GG didn't he just stood there caught a telegraphed kick and took him down, if Mirko's pressured he will leave the kicks alone and use his boxing(Breaking bones in the process). I really don't think you beat him by being agressive, you need the threat of a ground game or you have to catch him on an off night. I'm happy he's surrounding himself with the right people(Yvel's not there to teach him to fight dirty) picked an incredible coach, and gotten himself a cage.
