On the other hand, Mir lost a submission grappling match to Babalu a few months ago. If that shows where his ground skills are right now, hes in serious trouble. Not to say Babalu is a bad grappler, because hes not, but Mir has 50lbs on him and should have no problem beating him at his A game.

That is somewhat of a bad assumption that because Mir had 50 lbs. on Babalu, he should have effectively taken care of him. Sobral has beaten some pretty good grapplers in his day and participated in a lot of grappling tournaments. Sobral probably has more actual submission grappling, he definitely has more MMA fights by far.
Honestly, look down the list of fights he has had and tell me who on that list has the submission grappling that Sobral does. None of them. So either Mir ran into a fierce competitor finally, or we are talking about a beaten down Mir following the accident as most of the MMA world thinks now.

Like I said, Sobral is a good grappler, but Mir is supposed to be a world-class BJJ grappler in his weight class and has some decent wrestling credentials. All things being equal in a fight, the larger man will generally take it, but he lost to the smaller man. Sobral might have had a really good night (and he tends to have those now and again), or Mir might be well over the hill in pro-fighting. After seeing his performances after the accident, I'm banking on the latter being true.

a submission grappling match is one thing....but eating fists and elbows while grappling is another....its somewhat unrealistic to compare the two in regards to mma....and babulu at 205 and hardonk at whatever weight in a grappling match is all babulu....next point?

i dont know who to pick in this one but i do know that i would love for mir to show up and look good in this fight. im a sucker for a comeback story and i cant help but root for him after having his career snatched from him at his prime.
that said he has zero impressive performances since his accident so who knows. i also dont know how his bjj skills stack up to the best nowadays. someone said he was a black belt but i thought he was brown belt? anyways im excited to see how it plays out

I think for Mir to win he will need to do it in the first round and on the ground. Short of that he will be taking HUGE shots, knees, fists, and low kicks that can snap bone. Hardonk has the second knock out by low kick in UFC history and if one of them hits it could be over as Pendergarst learned at UFC 65.
War Hardonk!

I swore Sherman got KO'd by the leg kick, but Sherdog had it as a KO (punch). I haven't seen it since it aired live though, so thanks for clearing that up.
Also, who has the first KO via leg kick in UFC? Are you counting Mo Smith vs. Tank or Ruas vs. Varleans, because I can't recall any offhand.

How about Pedro vs Tank. Wasn't that a leg kick that ended the fight?
I can't be leave some said anything about losing to Babalu in a grappling match shows anything. Renato is world class in the world of submission grappling. Not only is he a very good bjj black belt, but he also was one of the best wrestlers in Brazil. Hardonk isn't bringing 1/100 of what Sorbral brings on the ground.
I am still picking Hardonk because Mir has just looked awful since his return, but every minute of this fight Hardonk is serious risk of being submitted. If Mir is able to actually take him down, the way McCully did, at any point of this fight you can bet the farm Frank will finish it.

No, it was a bunch of leg kicks that drained tank, but it was a single punch to the face that ended him. After the strike, Pedro turned and walked away. He knew it was over.
I took Hardonk. I'm sorry, but Mir is over after the accident. Too bad.
