Former UFC welterweight champion and “The Ultimate Fighter 5” coach B.J. Penn yesterday pleaded no contest to charges of assaulting a police officer in the first degree. The charges stemmed from a 2005 fight outside a Hawaii nightclub.

B.J. punched or pushed, whatever, a police officer that was in plain clothes. The cop wasn't in uniform. That's a little different. We don't know the exact circumstances of the event because we weren't there but you'd still think B.J. would know better. I do know that innocent people can be the victims of bad situations. But for some reason, I don't trust that B.J. was completely innocent. It's a good thing he comes from money$$$$. I wish I did..

man i hope he is kidding and if he is it is very funny...if hes not...
bj is one of my favoritefighters but like a lot of guys you can see that he has issues with his temper. just watching some of the interactions on tuf you can see how this sort of thing can happen. same sort of way it could happen to me because im a temper donkey as well.
i think it makes a big difference if the officer was plainclothed and didnt identify himself.

ye cops security gaurds and bouncers can be mean when off duty they seem to think they are in charge or try to be dominant. i bet bj penn was way smaller than the cop and he wasnt taking any of his shit

I hope BJ at least got a good shot or 2 in for all the innocent ppl that cop has ever harrassed. I'm sure he deserved what he got or more. Plain clothes officers don't like to identify themselves until you've already assaulted a police officer. I lucked out one time, had a guy in a rnc and he turns and goes "I'm a cop, I'm a cop" I had no idea if it was the truth. Both he and I are lucky that I let go upon hearing that, and he didn't try to push it further.

Without knowing all the facts no one can say if BJ was in the right or wrong, but we can all agree that hes so bad ass for fighting a cop, especially for attacking someone who was wielding pepper spray

I have problems with my temper, and if someone is messing with my brothers, I will step in as well. I've been arrested before and been put through shi* that wasn't deserved and had to put up with a**hole cops. Stillyet, wasted or not, B.J. is a PROFESSIONAL fighter. He should know how to control his temper. Granted, we don't know the exact circumstances, but even though sometimes I want to, I don't go around hitting cops. That's because I'm AN ADULT. If the cop antoganized the situation then he got what he deserved, and I've seen it happen before. But that may not be the situation. Even though I love B.J. as a fighter, we all still know how much of an arrogant prick he can be. I graduated from college and have a career, and I know that if I punch a cop, I'll probably lose my job. Sometimes I would like to but I still know better. Unless a cop attacks me for no reason, or is unnecessarily rough, I'm not going to punch him. Get real ppl, assaulting an officer is a felony and you can easily spend a couple years in jail/prison. As bada** as some of you might think you are, you're not going to punch a cop unless you have a really good reason. And if you do punch a cop without a good reason, then you're not very smart. Even though many cops abuse their power, most are good ppl. just trying to do their job. I'm as cynical as it gets but I still know that. Some of you sound like 12 year olds. Grow up.
