This has happened before when big Timmy was on the juice and he was stripped of the belt. Its safe to say that it will happen again. Now they better get Gomi or the LW div. could go away again with no stars.

What are with people saying crap like "Sherk works out real hard, that could be why he tested positive" LOL...it was nandrolone, the Shawn Merriman, a full blown anabolic steroid. Whether he takes 1 supplement or 200, he should know not to take nandrolone, he must've thought he had a good masking agent to cover it up. I couldn't care less about Franca. Sherk will definitely be stripped of the belt, as he should, and as previously stated, they better throw some big money at Gomi and have him fight BJ for the strap, IF Gomi can make 155. Otherwise bring in Melendez.

i cannot believe this. i mean i guess i can because if you look at sherk, he is ridiculously strong. the fact that both these guys tested positive for banned substances means that they aren't the only one's doing it in the world of mma. also, since both are suspended for a year, does that mean that sherk has to give up his lightweight title? i would assume so..

Im really not that surprised about Sherk, however I would have never thought Franca would have done this. Sad really, a year without fighting could be devastating.

I don't understand that Franca stated he took steroids so he could put food on the table for his family yet he knew when he was caught he would be suspended.

He tested positive for a metabolite of nandrolone. At natural compound that is found in everyone. Normal levels are 2 ng/mL. A high level athlete is 6 ng/mL. Sherk was at 12 ng/mL. I would say that it is not beyond the realm of possibility that he got to these levels naturally, but highly improbable. Strip the title and move on. I can’t wait to go home and delete the UFC All Access from my Tivo, it is full of lies.

Gomi just got beat up by Diaz. And BJ doesn't want to fight at 155 because he wants to beat Matt Hughes.

I would love to see a Gomi, BJ fight...

And that is really shitty that both of em test positive, although I can honestly admit it doesn't shock or surprise me.

Sherk is huge, look at him. He is amazingly strong too...

Franca isn't as big, and maybe wanted an edge and get stronger, so he didn't get GNP'ed like he did all fight, unfortunately it didn't work out too well for him.

this is a shame considering the obvious work ethic of sherk and the obvious love of the sport of franca

I can't read the articles at work, and I'm not trying to give excuses for the fighters, but taking a steroid is not only used to build muscle, they are also (more widely IMO) used to heal injuries more quickly... If you look at the way Sherk was training on the All Access and I'm sure Franca was training exceptionally hard, it's not suprising that injuries pop up more often (sprains, strains, etc)... Like I said, not making excuses, but it's just another way to look at it.

As for the LWtitle... I think they have a pretty decent LW div, and a lot of people would like to see a more "exciting" champ as appose to a ground wiz with some of the best top control in the game...

As for who BJ would fight, I would have to guess the logical choice would be Stevenson (if they want to wait till the end of the year) and if they don't bring in Melendez

yea he works out like that because of what he had in his system. his body recovers a hell of a lot faster. more than likely his levels were off the charts at one time and he was on his off cycle and he didnt get it out of his system fast enough. he may have a great work ethic but when you're juicing your workouts are a lot different

Does this mean Sherk gives up the title and the fight is now a nc?
