Valentina Shevchenko and Joanna Jedrzejczyk will do battle for the vacant UFC women’s flyweight title at UFC 231 in Toronto.

UFC officials announced the fight on Thursday night.

For Shevchenko (15-3), a multiple-time Muay Thai champion, this will be her second opportunity to claim the UFC’s 125-pound title. She was initially scheduled to challenge former champion Nicco Montaño for her belt in the co-main event of UFC 228 earlier this month. However, Montaño was forced out of the bout the day before their title fight. As a result, Shevchenko was pulled from the card entirely while Montaño was stripped of her title.

Bad fight for JJ. She's going to be 1-3 in 13 months when this fight is over.

Agreed. Not to mention, correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't she lose to Valentina twice during their careers as Muay Thai kick boxers? I feel like I heard or read that somewhere.

I think her weight cut isn't great, but she'll be willing to make it again after this fight

This should be good. Would not be surprised if JJ can win this, those 3 kickboxing fights where a lifetime ago. JJ definitely has the ability to make this close, I don’t think Valentina has the wrestling to get her down and if it’s a straight up kickboxing bout then that’s JJ’s best shot at winning really.

I think, sadly, Joanna's future is as a 125 gatekeeper.
