Say a fighter, any fighter, had posted an 11-1 UFC record at a certain weight class. Say that fighter also held a win over the current champion, and after banking 30 minutes of fight time with said champion, the series between the two was split 1-to-1 down the middle.

Assuncao has a point. But since the UFC is an entertainment industry. I’ll put it bluntly. He moved to BW in 2011. He went on a 7 fight win streak, during that time beating TJ. Then at UFC200, rematch with TJ and the loss/setback occurred. Start over. Now on a 4 fight win streak. Impressive win record.

(Since Aug. 2011) Let’s look at the wins, now. 12 fights @ BW. 9 of 12 went to the judges. 1 TKO, 1 sub, 1 KO. Of those 9 decisions, 5 unanimous decision wins with 3 split decision wins. With 1 decision as a loss to TJ at UFC 200.

I sympathize for the guy. But he’s not a draw. He’s not flashy. He hasn’t stamped his claim at the title. And it’s sad because I think he has an argument for it. But I am jusging all this based upon the current state of the Ooh-Eff-see

He's unlucky that the division has 3 interesting people they keep putting together.

He's unfortunate that he's not an entertaining fighter, really that's all it is. Nobody knows his name outside the MMA bubble.

Have him fight Cruz or Cody to earn a shot at the title. His last time against TJ wasn't even close, and despite the split win his performance against ALJO was nearly the same. There are lots of worthy contenders at BW, so I don't see any great injustice with Raphael not getting a title shot.

Should've lost to Marlon Moraes too btw. That was listed as the 2nd most disputed decision only behind the Held/Lauzon fight. (Of the entire 2017 year). AKA robbery.

So if it wasn't for a shitty judges decision he wouldn't be taking about his streak and Marlon would have 17 W's in a row. Just something to think about.

There's just no interest in it tbh. Gets a questionable split in the 1st fight, gets clowned on in the 2nd fight, and TJ's only looked better since. Assuncao's easily better than most in the world, but there's an equal divide between him and the very best.

What does he have to do? He's gotta show something besides beating guys the way he always has (with good grappling & smart but not devastating counter-punching). He detonates Lineker's nose with knees, or gets Cruz to submit from leg kicks? Okay, then we'd be talking.

He needs to run his trap, start twitter wars, act like a jack ass, demand attention, make spectacles, belittle other fighters and other ethnic groups, be narcissistic and arrogant, throw tantrums, destroy property etc Guys who do shit like that get all of the big fights. He's too quiet and too nice.
