Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir returns to the Octagon for the first time in nine months when he takes on dangerous Antoni Hardonk in a bout on August 25th’s UFC 74 card at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I just hope that Mir trains and is ready for the fight and is the Mir of old before the crash

He will NEVER be that person again. He's had like 4 fights since then and has looked boderline "fair" in all of them. Hardonk has decent stand-up and heavy hands; could be a bad night for Mir.

I think that Mir will take Hardonk down and submit him quickly.

I don't want to see Franky Bag O Donuts Mir, I want to see the Frank Mir that trained his ass off looking to get back to the top of the HW Div

Cmon people. this hardonk dude couldnt lock in an armbar against Justin McCully when he was handed it for about 5 min. All it takes is one takedown, which admittedly may not be super easy for a sub-par Mir, but even a sub-par Mir could tap this guy in his sleep. The only way Mir looses is a quick KO.

Remember when this fight was going to happen some months back?

This match shouldn't even be on the undercard. It should be contested in an empty arena. And just to make sure no one is subjected to it, have it in a different venue than the UFC 74 event. A barn, for example. They can grapple amongst the cattle and swine. Perhaps Frank Mir would find a creature that outweighs him.

It was going to be on a fight night card, but now we have to pay for it. It might be on the telecast because Mir is a former champ, but lets hope not.

No one is paying to see that match.

I really wish people wouldn't bash Mir...you can express your distaste for him, without going overboard. I will say that Mir no longer has what it takes to be competing at the UFC level...but I sure wish he would prove me wrong. I don't imagine we will be seeing him much longer if he fails to deliver here. Anyone know how many fights are left on his contract?

I will agree with that, but he is not a guy that I want to see on a 40-50 dollar PPV. I don't think he can compete with the current batch of HWs in the UFC and its a waste to have him on the card with so many Pride guys not doing anything. He is a WEC level fighter, but WEC doesn't have HW.

EDIT: He should have to prove himself somewhere else.

Hardonk gets his share of my disdain regarding this fight, too. But he's never been in the spotlight, so making fun of him isn't nearly as worthwhile.

I actually think Mir will win the fight. I'm not saying it will be a dominant victory though. I think he will win the fight, but still doubt he will ever be a contender in the UFC again. Who knows maybe he'll prove me wrong about that... and I hope he does.
