Edmonton officials have imposed a one-year ban on combat sports in the city.

The city council passed a new bylaw that will stop the Edmonton Combative Sports Commission from issuing new licenses or event permits until Dec. 31, 2018 “or until Council provides further direction,” per a news release issued Friday. The provision will go into effect Saturday.

Seems like a pretty irrationall reaction. There are thousand of fights that happen in the US and Canada on pretty much a daily basis, and yet there are very few if not any extreme injuries or death. Tim's death was unfotunate, and perhaps there was some negligence or corruption in the commissions or in the promotion that caused his untimely demise, but to hamper all of Edmonton's combat promotion and to hamper fighters from doing what is pretty much their job seems like a bad decision.
Hopefully they realize this and lift the ban sooner than a year.

there looks to be negligence within the commission (my opinion, especially with the suspensions, with Hague's losses) but to ban all events for a year is unnecessary! Unified 33 (Dec 15) was looking like a decent card with some interesting match ups, now they are thrown to wayside. The city also pushing for a provincial commission is kind of bullshit, as it doesn't always equal proper operation with a commission.

Wasn't he knocked down like 8 times and the ref never stopped it when he clearly should have?
