Jimmie Rivera will go from a former champion to one of the hardest hitters in the division.

With Dominick Cruz out due to injury, John Lineker has stepped in to face Rivera at UFC 219 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas, MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani confirmed with sources Tuesday. Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal had the news after an initial report by Helwani earlier in the day. Cruz withdrew earlier this month because of a broken arm.

Solid fight there with Rivera vs Lineker. The BW division is getting really top heavy with contenders. TJ at the thrown, Cruz, Garbrandt, Rivera and Assuncao all worthy in their own different ways of being next.

Lineker, Moraes, Sterling, Munhoz and I'll even throw in Dodson all sitting in the backseat ready to get in the front.

This is the best the BW Division has looked in some time.

Good thing they are matching Rivera/Lineker and Moraes/Sterling up. That will help sort this top half out a bit.

I realize Dodson just lost, but that was close, same with Moraes losing to Assuncao. Moraes probably should've gotten the nod and he'd be one of the 4 horsemen behind TJ chasing that Title shot.

Finally a solid replacement.....I think Jimmie's best path to victory in this one is by using his wrestling or just mixing up his game but if he strictly bangs with Lineker he's putting himself at un-necessary risk of being KO'd. I have faith in Rivera's striking as well, just if you compare them on paper, Lineker is more dangerous. Rivera will be the bigger fighter and I think should use that to his advantage by closing the distance, cage grinding, take downs, etc.

I was kind of wanting it to be Assuncao, but Lineker's a fine replacement.
