i could take somebody down and lay on top of them for 25 minutes and not be tired. the only time sherk really did alot of work was at the end of the 5th when franca kept standing up and sherk kept taking him down.

I agree man. BJ is the best pound for pound fighter on the planet! He can finish the fight anywhere, on his feet or on the ground. The only question hanging over BJs head is his cardio, something that Sherk is famous for!

If B.J. comes in to this fight in as good a shape as he did against Pulver, and pushes the pace on his feet, he'll be to much for the one-dimensional Champ.

In essence Sherk will be a 'Shark' out of water!

Well BJ beat Hughes and Sherk is a mini-Hughes...BJ barely lost to GSP (I mean barely) and Sherk got beatup by GSP. BJ Penn has looked in better shape then usuall lately. Sherk won't be able to take BJ down IMO, and get beatup on the feet. If Sherk gets BJ down I can assure you he will not be able to pass BJ's guard like he did Franca's.

no sherk is not a mini hughes, he is like hughes without any submissions or ground'n'pound. bj will take this for sure by a knockout probably, i agree sherk will have a harder time taking penn down and a much harder time passing bj's guard if he does.

Sherk is unbelievably conditioned. Sherk will walk through BJ only if BJ comes to this fight unconditioned. When he fought Pulver, he still seemed to be losing some steam late in the fight, so he needs to do more.

Sherk was suspectible to guillotine chokes, and he isn't elusive to a submission. I see BJ possibly ending it by guillotine. But if it goes late, Sherk will dominate BJ just on raw conditioning alone. Sherk is way stronger and more powerful than BJ, but BJ's ground submission game will be far superior. It will be a very interesting matchup.

Sherk is not a mini-Hughes. He is always pushing the pace and his striking is better than Hughes. They are both wrestlers but I believe Sherk is definitely more well-rounded than Hughes. He lost to Hughes and GSP because they are both much larger than him and could deal with his explosive power (Hughes' did not even finish Sherk off and actually lost 2 rounds to him).

i cant believe the original poster saying sherk is going to walk through BJ. NO one has really dominated BJ before, not even when he was fighting at HW. there are sooo many of these stupid lets jump on the sherk bandwagon threads on this website.

Penn has great take down defence, as evident in his fight against hughes. if hughes had trouble taking down bj and hughes is bigger then sherk, i see him having a bit of a difficult time constantly taking bj down like he did franca.

also bj bjj skills are far superior then franca. i hope sherk doesnt get overconfident with his own bjj skills after the franca fight. you can expect bj to try and finish the fight from his back if he is taken down.

bj has had bad cardio problems in the past especially when he was fighting in the heavier divisions. but at LW he looks in great condition, very lean and cut. he looked great agaisnt pulver. im not saying he has the same cardio level as sherk cause that would just be ignorant. sherks cardio is insane!!!!

BJ has the best chance to win this fight in the first 1-3 rounds. after that sherk will grind him down like he did against franca.

the big deciding factor for this fight is going to be how much bj has trained for this fight (cardio) as well as motivation.

I meant he is a mini Hughes in the way that he is a very good wrestler and is allways attempting to get dominant top position.

BJ will have no problem with cardio, being in shape, or whatever.
We all heard him say that he wants to prove all the people right who've been saying he's the best fighter in the world. His time is now. He wants to be at the top.

I cant belive wht im hearing .... Bj penn has never EVER been owned look at his 4 loss's 3 by descison to GSP (contervoursel at tht) Pulver (early in his carrer) and Lyoto ( whos a natural 205'er) All sherk can do is bully people like florian and francas Bj has been in there with bigger and better then sherk. Sherk was able 2 avoid being submited by 2 black belts in florian and francas ... but theres a BIG diff between there jui jits and pens im not dismissing sherk sits on top of him for whole fight and wins again but thts his only chance of winning penn can knock him out or submit him he has 2 be scared of penn from every where penn doesnt have 2 fear sherk from ne where

I think BJ is a better and more complete fighter than sherk. It will be a good fight but BJ should win if he is in shape.
