UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor held off on committing to a UFC return, but said he’s got options for his future.

“I have many options in MMA,”McGregor told MMAjunkie at the press conference for “The Money Fight,” which followed his 10th round TKO loss to Floyd Mayweather at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. “I’m sure there’s options that will present themselves in the boxing game. Right now, I’m a free agent. My name is on the ring.”

A little loose from his eponymous whiskey, McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC, 0-1 boxing) spoke proudly of his effort against Mayweather (50-0 boxing) and his ability to get his name on the canvas as a promoter of the lucrative Showtime pay-per-view.

After a 30+ mil payday, why would he go back to mma? To build his brand is the only reason I can think of.

McGregor can do whatever he likes in MMA...Paulie in boxing is probably about the best he could do. But the UFC could make Halloway, Winner of Tony vs Lee, Khabib in Russia...etc...it's all cream for Conor.

It's either walk away now and let his star fade with time, or take $15M paydays in UFC and keep the train going.

Do your job and defend your belt against T-Ferg/Lee winner. Is that asking for too much. This guy is so catered to its making me sick. T-Ferg is the fight i want personally. Years end show sounds good too.

But watch He'll fight Diaz again. That's what the casuals want.

Or just cough the belt up and let the MMA world carry on.

Honestly if I could choose I'd say Khabib in Moscow or St. Petersburg. That was his idea, let him get what he asked for...winner gets winner of Ferguson vs Lee.

He should go back to the UFC LW division and actually defend a friggin' belt. There is a stacked division waiting for him. But...if he loses to one of the LWs the hype train is in trouble. He'll take the safe bet and opt for a Diaz trilogy. Even if he loses...especially if it's an exciting fight he really hasn't lost anything as far as superstar status goes. A Diaz fight is a big fight as are fights with a few guys in the LW division but the Diaz fight is the safe one that will extend his status. After a Diaz fight he'll probably call out Woodley or whoever else is WW champ at that point. After that he'll find some other "money fight".. I don't know if we'll ever see him actually defend a belt.
