Fast on the heels of an approved event request to the Nevada boxing commission, the much-ballyhooed meeting between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is set to go down.

Citing a “well-placed source,” Yahoo! Sports reporter Kevin Iole today wrote that the bout will take place Aug. 26 in Las Vegas, the date approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for an event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Dana White also says Conor will fight in the UFC again by the end of this year...at least this fight is one step closer to being over.

The build up to this will be epic. Apparently the UFC are doing the embedded for this. Mcgregor is worth a bet he's paying $5 and $7 for a KO

I've heard estimates around $120-80 guaranteed Mayweather-McGregor with another probable 30 mil payday each after the buyrate. Idk the ring size. With relatively small 10oz boxing gloves McGregor stands a chance at a knockout wirhin a few rounds, but after that he'll get pieced up.... most likely a decision.

Either way how does he go from $100 mil+ to facing a killer like Fergson-Khabib, back to FW for Max, or a Diaz trilogy for at best $10 mil? If this goes down as it's supposidly set he'll likely unfortunately never fight in the UFC again.

I sure hope not. But it's hard not to argue against this point. McG has no formal professional boxing experience. Yes he has power. But how are his hands, alone? In MMA, there are so many factors i.e. knees, boxing, kicks, takedowns, etc. So it's hard for someone to commit to one style inside the cage because of so many "what-ifs". Here there is only one factor. Hands. So we will find out how good Conor is in boxing, only. I see it going one of two ways. Conor gets an early T/KO or Floyd picks him apart for a UD.

Win, lose or draw, Conor is not going to fight again in the UFC. He is going to make more money then anyone ever to step into the octagon. After he becomes filthy rich does Dana really think he is going to get in the cage for peanuts? lol I mean shit, If I was him, I would fight Pac Man for one more boxing payday, open a gym in Ireland and call it a day.

McGregor's boxing is on point.

Check out McGregor's incredible boxing skills

My bet is he fights in the UFC again just for the simple fact that he's a fighter who loves fighting. It can be tough to leave something you love.

I am guessing he fights again in the UFC as well, regardless of how much he pulls in on this fight. $10 million a fight is still not chump change. Assume two fights a year. That's $20 million alone, at least for the next couple years. Add in all the endorsements and other side gigs (acting etc) and he's making a lot more. If he retires, he will start to lose those opportunities. The amount he makes will only go up if he keeps winning. If he loses a few in a row, then he will likely retire.

I see this being about as competitive as Toney vs Couture.

Toney had absolute zero ground game, it's way different then that fight

Also, while Toney was an incredible boxer and a gifted athlete in his day (seriously, check out his highlights - masterful defense and wondrous hand speed), his appearance against Couture was a demonstration of his long-term issues with weight control.
