Conor McGregor is no longer a two-division world champion. At least, according to the UFC.

The Irishman, who also holds the UFC lightweight belt, has relinquished given up his featherweight title, the UFC announced Saturday night during the UFC Fight Night 101 broadcast.

Although the UFC says McGregor has given up the featherweight belt voluntarily, sources told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani that McGregor never agreed to that decision. Regardless, the UFC has the right to strip the belt from McGregor.

Jose Aldo, who won the interim title back at UFC 200 in July, defeating Frankie Edgar, will now take McGregor's belt and become the undisputed 145-pound champion.

Wolf tickets! This show can't be headlined by Pettis vs Holloway unless they jazz it up with this crap. Disappointed with this card from the start and even worse now. Likely going to be one of the lowest purchased cards of the year.

Words have meanings...the message is clear with the word choice "relinquished". There still isn't a reason to have an Interim belt, just need Jose to decide not to quit. His actions are a little ridiculous too, almost cry-babyish.

Kinda torn on this one, I hate to see a division get held up if the champ does not or will not defend the belt. on the other hand he earned them both.

That's an excellent point; it's not like the greatest FW champion in MMA history was done horrendously dirty by the UFC. I mean it's clearly on par with the treatment of other title holders like....

Ronda Rousey. Whom was smashed by Holm, took a year vacation and got an immediate title fight;

McGreggor: who got a beat down put on him by Diaz (yea he beat up Diaz too) and was beaten on the feet and finished on the ground, got a SD in a rematch that was razor thin and was given a title shot at LW having a 1-1 record in the division against 1 fighter that is arguably not a top-5 and was never expected to defend his FW belt;

Barao vs. Dillashaw;
Werdum vs. Velasquez;

Yeah, I too am tired of the preferential treatment of Aldo above all other fighters. It's not like he's given the UFC anything really. I mean who does this guy think he is?

...got a SD in a rematch...

It wasn't a split decision. Go back and review.
Conor won a majority decision, 48-7, 48-47, 47-47.

Technically you're right Nathan but it doesn't matter that's not the point he's making with his post.

No one's chosen actions are dictated by the actions of others. There is an obvious displacement of power on multiple levels, favoritism too. This doesn't excuse anyone for going on the way Aldo did, if he backs up his "desire" to retire then good for him to make that decision when it was time. If he did it out of recourse, and spite, then it's rather childish. There were many other ways to handle the situation, and the way Aldo chose wasn't admirable is all I am saying. Not that it wasn't understandable.

Tough to say that when a lot of the things he said were true. Dana said after the Nate Diaz fights McGregor would be defending the FW belt. Which we all knew he didn't, he fought Eddie for the LW belt at MSG.

I knew in the back of my head he was never making that weight again, which is why they gave him the Alvarez fight so at least he can have 1 belt. 155 should be a much tougher division for McGregor, he was holding up the FW division, had not defendied the title for a year and if they scheduled a fight soon, when would it be for, April or May?

He has much bigger fights at 155 lbs and I question his ability to make 145 anymore.

I think I am the only person who is super excited about the Pettis Halloway title fight sure it's a weird interim belt but let's be honest if Conor wasn't the star he is he would have got stripped a long time ago and Max would have got a title fight. To me this is more justification towards Hollway's short end of the stick than anything else. Conor is a great fighter but he's no champ he never gave these guys a chance to be the man and now they have their chance.

Jesus. Aldo's a terrific fighter who beat the brakes off Frankie, but if Conor's not coming back to 145, at least make an official title fight.

I don't review these things, I'm too important. So I have people whom are less important, with more free time do it for me.

Keep up the good work.

You've bet on ~2100 fights for fake money on the internet. Yep, totally important with little free time.
