You can only sign the contract that is offered to you.

So I am saying, how can the UFC offer a bigger contract to Bonnar than Sherk.

That is silly, ridiculous, absurd, etc., etc.

Sherk might have had a long contract like Franklin did. Rich was getting paid peanuts even though he was champ because he a very long deal (7-9 fights, I forget) going back to long before he was Champ.

Now that Zuffa owns UFC, PRIDE and WEC, fighters aren't going to have many options:

1. Get a better agent and don't sign long deals until you are marketable

2. Take what you can get because you have no other options (except IFL, Elite and Bodog)

Sherk must have had an old contract. He was off for awhile and i think has had only 4 fights in the UFC. Shitty I know but he must be due for an increase once his contract is up (if it isn't already?)

The UFC doesn't negotiate contract fight by fight so that must have been what he signed up for.

Sherk is obviously worth waaaay more than that and will get his due I hope. He is just so dominant.

Sherk will get more money from sponsors since he's champion anyways.

I was pretty shocked to see Sherk and how little he was earning but like others have said it's probably because of an older contract he signed before he was champ.

Bonnar's popularity was through the roof after his 1st fight with Griffin. That meant asses in the seat for the UFC. Sherk took time off from the fight game and then signed a contract before he was champ. Sherk is honoring that contract and when it's up, hell get paid.

And the UFC gives good bonuses too.

Remember when Bonnar got the six figure contract after the TUF 1 finale. Thats probably why hes making so much. Forest got $16,000 to lose at UFC 66 and he probably got the same deal as Bonnar.

I'm sure he is doing OK. He has a nice looking family, nice house and he can afford organic foods. (no 99 cent cheeseburgers for that guy!)

In the long run, he will have more money than he knows what to do with. I hope.
