after saturday i dont think anyone can beat this guy...or machine, whatever he is...franca caught him with at least three good knees, and he still never stopped attacking...even when he was out from that first one, he came back so quick and was never in trouble again for the rest of the fight...this guy is scary

If he gets by BJ, then I think he'll hold the belt a long time. Still, no one is unbeatable. There is always cuts, injury's, and unexpected one punch or kick's or Ko's .

bj is better at striking and JJ than franca, and hermes had sherk in some tight spots there a few times. I think BJ can stop him, but hippy is right, if BJ can't do it, I don't really see anyone else who can in the near future barring something strange like a cut or freak KO.

good point....thats the only way bj would beat sherk...standing up and knocking him out, but only if he could keep sherk from taking him down, which is hard, sherks just so controlling...its crazy

franca isnt known for having the best gas and he went the distance so i wouldnt think that it would be too much of a problem for penn. sherk will not be able to do that to bj for five rounds. i can definately see sherk smothering most guys in the top ten much like he did franca but i dont think bj is one of them.

Well I think BJ can beat Sherk and some Pride LW's but other than that not really. BJ stopped Hughes takedown in the start of their second fight...easily almost and Hughes is stronger then Sherk. Also Franca has good BJJ but not nearly as good as BJ's MMA BJJ. If Sherk can survive the first 2-3 rounds I see him beating BJ through decision though.

Like I said in another thread too, there might not really be any UFC lightweights that pose a challenge for him other than BJ, but if someone like Aoki comes over I think Sherk would be in a whole world of trouble. When your main strength is your ability to pick someone up and put them on the mat and your opponent's top priority is to pull flying guard you should probably be worried. Great BJJ is a wrestler's kryptonite imo. If someone beats Sherk I see it being someone with great rubber guard, and BJ and Aoki are two of the best in that department.

I think it's entirely depndant as to who the UFC bring over from the Pride LW division. I'm not sure other than BJ if there is anyone who can really cause him too much problems on the current roster.
Adding Melendez, Gomi, Aoki, Hansen and so on to the mix makes things alot more competitive and I agree with the post before, I see Aoki's rubber guard making a difference in this type of match. Either way as long as I dont have to see a kenny / sherk rematch, I won't mind Sherk holding the belt for long time.
If i'm honest I thought Franca had the tools to beat Sherk...

Sherk will have the belt until someone figures out how to finish him from off their back, or he fights someone that is able to manhandle him like GSP did (even though that was at WW, same concept).. his chin is too strong (to be KO'd, not TKO'd), his wrestling and ground control are too strong, and his cardio is top notch.. his build makes him hard to submit.. he's just a beast.. I just hope he works on his ability to finish his opponents

I don't think his chin is too good for him to be KOed at all, and I think we saw that against Hermes. He definitely has a good chin, but a couple of those knees had him stumbling around pretty bad, and I think someone with punching power like gomi could knock him out with a clean shot. The problem with that is I don't think there are really any fighters who can hit that hard AND stuff his takedowns.

well I say that because nobody has ever KO'd him in a fight, and even when he was getting busted up by GSP's elbows while being mounted, he still wasn't out, the ref stopped the fight because it was too bad and he was bleeding like crazy.. the knee hermes through in the beginning of round 2 would have knocked 49/50 fighters unconscious, and he ate a couple other good ones on top of that.. granted he did stumble for a second, but then he took hermes down right away and was passing his guard like it was nothing like he didn't just eat a huge knee.. he never seemed phased was my point, aside from the initial impact
as far as gomi KO'ing him.. if they ever fight, bad night for gomi.. that's all i'll say

He is good, but BJ can beat him. Heck, no-one is unbeatable, and BJ is a cut far above the rest.

BJ will gas by the 2nd/3rd round and Sherk will win. Sherk took 4 knees to the face, and didn't flinch.
