Rafael dos Anjos will be the first male fighter to defend a title on UFC Fight Pass this July when he puts his belt on the line against Eddie Alvarez at UFC Fight Night 90.

UFC Fight Night 90 is a part of the massive week of fights surrounding UFC 200. The event takes place Thursday, July 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The entire event will stream on UFC Fight Pass.

I'm okay with it. Just because it's free.

I expect RDA to win this if he fights how he has been fairly easily.

IMO the UFC is trying very much so to have it the way things were before Mcgregor lost to Diaz. That way all the super fights that were there before can still be made with a full head of steam behind them.

I have no problems with this matchup at all.

The only person I thought would've been more deserving was Ferguson but he got injured and his Khabib fight is scrapped so Alvarez is a good choice with recent wins over Melendez and Pettis.

Glad to see Eddie get a shot at the belt and the UFC make the most of Fight Pass. I think Eddie matches well with RDA. It would be dope to see him get a strap.

I think they matchup well. It will be a good fight. Not a bad booking given the circumstances.

This is why I think when the 1st opportunity for a super fight appears it needs to be acted upon. It may be a pain in the ass and cost a bunch of money upfront but it will quickly make up for it.
3 years ago had you done GSP vs Silva it would have done at least 1.5m views. Easily worth the 1 mil a pop to pay those guys to do the fight.

Such a gift title shot for Alvarez...bizarre that a loss and two mediocre split decision wins got him here. What's even more strange is that for no other reason than the simple fact that he's fighting for the belt, the UFC has him ranked as the #1 contender. That's just baffling.

Who would you have fight for the belt instead?

I agree with there not really being any other person to give it to. The only other person off the top of my head that I can make a possible argument for getting the shot is Tony Ferguson. Khabib is a no go. hasn't fought in 2 years I think, and the likely win he'll get this weekend isn't one that will warrant a shot at the belt. Pettis is coming off 2 losses and is booked to fight Edson Barboza if memory serves. The only person that makes any sense at all is Eddie with Tony not available. I'd say Tony would be next in line after that unless they try to book him with Khabib again. Nate may be a logical choice for them if he beats McGregor again at 200 in terms of an easily marketable title fight. Barboza would be inching into that conversation with a win over Pettis as Barboza has been on a tear of late but he needs a win over a guy like Pettis to push himself into the conversation, otherwise he'll be back in the middle of the pack again. That's really all I have for potential contenders and outside of Ferguson, who like I said, an argument could be made for, there really isn't anyone super deserving other than Alvarez at 155 right now.

That said, I just had a thought about a bad ass fight that could be made. Can any of you think of a fight at 155 right now that would be more exciting at 155 than a 5 round title affair between Ferguson and Alvarez, should Alvarez beat RDA?

Weird that beating Pettis & Melendez is being gifted a title shot. Khabib doesnt deserve it. Ferguson may be on a streak but his 2 big wins are against barboza and thomson...good wins but not as big as eddie's.

Honestly the ranking isn't that strange if you think about it. Nurmogomedov has been out of action for far too long to be ranked or even considered as #1 contender. Pettis just recently lost to Alvarez. Cerrone and Henderson are no longer LW's in the UFC. So then it comes down to Alvarez and Ferguson being the 2nd Ranked fighter in the Division at this moment.

IMO it's just a matter of time before Khabib has the belt.

With the trend the UFC has been going on giving out title shots, I would have been okay giving it to Khabib
