Rafael dos Anjos admits he lost his ‘payday,’ but open to Robbie Lawler superfight at UFC 200

Perhaps the biggest loser from the madness of UFC 196, at least in a financial sense, is someone who didn't fight at all.

UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos lost his golden ticket to the Conor McGregor show when he dropped out with a broken foot less than two weeks before the event. And after seeing his replacement, Nate Diaz, shatter the illusion of the unbeatable Irishman, dos Anjos' takeaways are twofold: first, that his big payday is likely gone for good, and second, that he could've done far worse things to McGregor had he not gotten injured.

"I've been around the game for a long time, 12 years, and I never cancelled any fight due to injury," dos Anjos said Monday on The MMA Hour. "I always show up, but unfortunately for this fight, I broke my foot, man. A lot of people are making fun of it, and I don't like to make fun of people's injuries. I think we are fighters, so everybody is going to get injured one day. So, unfortunately I lost my payday, but I think everything is God's plan for my life. I believe in that.

He might be interested but I'm sure very few people other than him actually are. RDA isn't much of a draw unfortunately. He has some work to do before he becomes one. He's going to fight Diaz next I'm thinking. Or maybe the Khabib/Ferguson winner if they're able to bounce back quickly.

Only person who should get a shot is
Mighty mouse at 135. Since he cleaned his division out.

Yeah if anything...since Ronda probably won't be ready the only other mega star champ is Jones(when he beats Cormier)

If I was making UFC 200 I'd go all out with...

Jones vs Rumble
Rockhold/Weidman 2 winner vs Jacare (granted he beats Belfort)
McGregor vs Edgar
Overeem vs Rothwell 2 (#1 contender fight if both win next bouts)
Cowboy vs Diego Sanchez(just to open the card with a guranteed war)

Save Dos Anjos vs Diaz/Cruz vs Mighty Mouse 2 for the PPV before or after. I think Rumble makes the most sense if Jones wins but Gus would be good for either as well for Jones or DC if they win since he arguably beat both of them. But if Jones wins with all the rematches lately it'd be nice to finally get that Rumble/Jones fight as the main.

Knowing the UFC tho they'll make Connor the main event even tho he lost his last fight and because he lost I don't think you can have Diaz vs Dos Anjos on the same card since you know they would put Connor on after them which makes no sense since Diaz beat him but UFC logic is no logic at all haha

Honestly, if a good 155 or 170 title fight isn't available come UFC 200, this is not a bad idea, this is big.

RDA has trashed Bendo, Nate, Pettis and Cowboy in his last 4 fights. Not an easy lineup and 3 of those guys either fought their last fight or will fight their next fight at 170. He is one of if not the most impressive fighter in the UFC in the past couple of years.

RDA is elite and good enough to make a move like this now with the right circumstances imo. Those circumstances being Tony or Nurmagomedov not being ready for 200 and Robbie having no clear challenger at 200.

The 155 and 170 champions fighting each other is the biggest fight in MMA every day, those are the far and away best divisions in the sport.

Fuck the casual side of the fence, how about people other then walking hard ons and hand picked spokesmodels get some opportunities to do big things.

Funny how you guys think a ppv would consist of 3 title fights and 2 more fights

If they ever did 3 titles
Your looking at a 4 fight ppv main card

Bring on the super fights!

I'd be on the edge of my seat in anticipation if this fight was coming up.

I like super fights but Turd Furglison and Wonderboy have been putting on some awesome fights. I don't want to see either sidelined waiting for a title shot like Frankie.

But I know they both have fights so if the timing is right. Why not?

I think it's hilarious RDA 'is open' for a superfight. First, how about you clean out the division and second, how about we ask Robbie how he feels about this.

Maybe I'm selfish, but I don't want to have to wait til UFC 200 to see Robbie Lawler fight again.

Honestly I'd take an RDA Lawler fight. I'm into these big fights that put great fighters against one another. For too long GSP and Anderson didn't fight. Anderson and Jon Jones didn't fight. I want DJ to fight Cruz. I have no problem with belts getting held up as long as they put great fights on.

I kind of agree with you but how many super fights have we ever had? Diaz McGregor and Andy's brief foray at 205 are the only ones I can think of. This paticular fight doesn't interest me at all though, RDA gets destroyed by Robbie IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing Silva back at 205 but for the most part I just want to see champs defend their belts more than once a year.
