The Nevada Athletic Commission is about to have another UFC marijuana case on its hands.

The UFC announced Friday that Diego Brandao tested positive for a marijuana metabolite at UFC 195 earlier this month in Las Vegas. The positive sample came from an in-competition test, which means Brandao faces a penalty. Marijuana is not prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code out of competition. In-competition is defined as the 12 hours before and after a fight.

Yup...he's fucked for a year or so, and it was a loss too so don't expect a good opponent upon return if he remains on the roster at all.

There is currently no test available that can only detect marijuana in a 24 hour period, hence there is no way they can be sure if he used within the 12 hours pre and post fight, if these time frames are even accurate. A regular smoker will have 100s of ng/ml even a week or more after they stop smoking, so a result of 180+mg/ml should be expected. This whole thing is more about bankrolling a potentially corrupt, and most certainly flawed system than protecting the fighters. B.S.

Not to mention, it's WEED.....who cares. It's been legalized in a few states for some time now and will continue to become decriminalized. There's no performance enhancer w/ weed, they honestly shouldn't even bother testing for it.

It really sucks that Diego gets punished for trying to do the right thing. He had straight up zero chill, threatening to stab the DP in the neck and all that. Clearly, he needed to be medicated and took the correct steps to calm his nerves.

Should give him option of being stabbed with a pen or pencil or a year ban.

Lol, exactly what I was thinking. If anyone on the roster needed to be given a free pass for smoking, it's him.
