UFCjunkie.com Source: Matt Arroyo to Appear on The Ultimate Fighter 6
Posted by UFC Junkie on July 5, 2007 at 8:21 am ET

Matt Arroyo (2-1 in MMA, 0-0 UFC), who hails from the Gracie Tampa camp, will likely appear on the upcoming sixth season of The Ultimate Fighter, according to a UFCjunkie.com source.

The Real Fighting Championships veteran would become the second Gracie Tampa student to appear on the show. Classmate Allen Berubie was a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter 5 but was forced out of the competition with a loss in the season’s first episode.

The Ultimate Fighter 6 is currently in production and is set to debut in September. Current UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra and former champ Matt Hughes serve as coaches for the welterweights-only season of the Spike TV reality series.

Arroyo, a 24-year-old submission specialist, has beaten Naeem Munir (0-2 MMA) and Ariel Pena (0-2 MMA) and lost to Matt Brown (3-2 MMA) during his 10-month professional career. He’s a veteran of grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments and a “four-stripe Purple Belt” under Rob Kahn, according to his Gracie Tampa bio.

In recent days, UFCjunkie.com exclusively announced Mac Danzig, Jon Koppenhaver, Richie Hightower, Billy Miles and Joe Scarola as other likely cast members.

his record may not be impressive, but i saw this guy fight here in orlando and he is no joke on the ground.. dominated the guy and choked him out in under a minute..

Matt Arroyo vs Edson Diniz - Grappling - Diniz is an ATT black belt.. Arroyo taps him with an omoplata to triangle choke transition

thats a sweet transition he did. But I think its been proved again and again, you cant just be a ground guy. From what I saw, he needs some SERIOUS stand up help...

hm.. well that was just a grappling match bro.. there were no strikes.. so i'm not sure where you are judging his standup from, but trust me, it's not bad.. not great, but not bad at all
