I wonder what prompted the retirement, I'm looking forward to her full statement. That decision she "lost" Saturday night was hers, in my opinion. I thought she fairly handily worked a much larger fighter who couldn't even make weight.

I agree. I was pretty surprised that they gave Bennett the decision. Deanna herself admitted that she wouldn't have been shocked if they had given the win to Katja.

That fight was a perfect example of the 10 pt must system failing.

The 3rd round was completely Katja's round, she dominated it from start to finish, but nobody awarded her a 10-8 because they aren't awarded enough. That combined with 2 very close rounds that could have been scored either way ended up with the wrong person getting the decision.

Anyone who judged that fight as a whole would almost certainly give it to Kankaanpaa, but all it takes is 2 judges giving Bennett the first 2 rounds and the dominant round doesn't matter.

It doesn't happen all that often, but often enough that it should be addressed.
