The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season four middleweight winner Travis Lutter (9-4) has signed a bout agreement to fight UFC newcomer Ryan Jensen (11-1) at UFC 74: “Respect” on August 25.
Lutter confirmed the bout with UFCmania earlier this afternoon.
Despite his accomplishments on the show — beating Scott Smith and Pete Sell en route to an impressive first round submission win over Patrick Cote in the Finale — Lutter is notorious for failing to make weight for the bout against middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 67 earlier this year.
The title fight was his reward for winning the show, but he couldn’t make the 185-pound limit. It was then relegated to a three-round nontitle bout.
Lutter — who was gaunt and weak from the drastic weight cut — performed well against the powerful striker early on. He achieved full mount and had many fans believing that he would indeed pull off the upset.
But during the second round, Lutter got caught in a tight triangle and was forced to tap.
He retreated to his Brazilian jiu-jitsu school in Texas after the loss, and hasn’t really been heard from since.
Until now.
This will mark the first fight for Jensen inside the Octagon. He has primarily competed in smaller shows such as Victory Fighting Championships and International Fighting Championship throughout his career, putting together a solid run.
In fact, his only loss is to the top welterweight contender in the WEC, Brock Larson.

This will be an easy first-round submission win for Lutter.

I may go with Jensen for some upset points in this one. Although it is going to be hard to pick against Lutter, a bjj black belt and a fighter who IMO is better than his record would show. I think he's progressed and gotten better over the years. And I also believe he performed fairly well against the heavily favored Silva considering the circumstances.
However, we should not underestimate Jensen at all. This guy is no rookie, and actually made his mma debut back in 97 with a win over Travis Fulton via triangle choke in the first round. Despite not fighting for over 5 years after that, when he returned he continued with his winning ways by only losing one fight since then against a great fighter in Brock Larson. So he's been around for a while and he obviously isn't a pushover. Add to that he's only let one fight go past the first round, a tko win in the second over Danny Anderson. That's pretty dominate.
That, however, could also be one of the two only possible weaknesses I can see for him right now. Couldn't be for sure, but who knows how he might perform if the fight last longer than he's used to. Big difference in the amount of energy between the first and third round. And mentally, he may start to question himself if he can't put Lutter away early.
The second possible weakness being he's never been on the big stage before. Lutter is also a veteran and he's fought on t.v. and for the UFC numerous times before. But this is also just something we'll not know for sure until the actual fight.
........maybe I will pick Lutter

While I was extremely pissed at Lutter for not making weight against Silva, he performed well. I am picking him in this fight.

Well I just gave you a few explanations as to why not to underestimate him. Add to that, we've seen Serra over GSP, Gonzaga over CC, and Sokoudjou over Lil Nog recently. And that's just to name a few. Jensen over Lutter wouldn't be nearly as big of an upset as those fights.

People are way under-rating Jensen he a good fighter with a good record. His only loss is to Brock Larson which is nothing to be ashamed of. Personally I think he'll not only beat but finish Lutter who became soooooo over rated during his TUF stint. Jensen has superior wrestling to Anderson Silva so Lutter's take display he put on won't carry over in this one.

Cause Jensen is a young upcoming talent and Lutter is over rated over hyped TUF I know he looked imprssive on the show but Cote Smith adn Sell aren't world beaters.

I'm not suprised they brought him back. Joe Riggs didnt make weight at UFC 56 for his title shot against Hughes and they had him back at UFC 57.
