I'm the kind of fan that can care less about a fighter's personality outside the cage and only cares about how dynamic and original they are inside it.
If he eats babies outside the cage, that's of no concern to me

Because I like his personality, he's struck me as a stand up individual with integrity, someone who has had some hard turns in his life I can relate to and seeing him be successful as a result of his hard work is something that is encouraging to me. There are plenty of guys who are good fighters or winners, but those things are mostly secondary from who a guy is, Jones has convinced me he an arrogant, immature, brat not traits I support in an individual. I could careless how good he is because I don't pick my favorites on performance alone, otherwise my favorite fighters would only be the champions of each division. I'm not that kind of fan.

Interesting. Thank you for the response!

I do tend to pick fighters based on their performances, but my favorite performers are not necessarily the champions or the best in their respective weight classes.
I started to really like Nurmagomedov after the performance he put on against Trujillo, at which point I had no idea how Nurmagomedov would do against the rest of the division.
I love watching Leslie Smith fight like a junkkyard dog.
Alex Caceres is one of my favorites to watch because of his style (both hair and fighting).

Now the question that always follows for this line of conversation... Just what can a guy do then to make you not support him or her as a fan? If Loydd Irvin had a unique style would that mean his character faults can be forgiven or ignored if you know about those as well? If Melvin Costa does things in the cage nobody else does or can, does one become a personal fan of his? If Julian Lane can just bang, is that who you throw your hat in with? As soon as a guy gives you a reason to integrate the man to the fighter, I choose.

I see your point, I think.
But I'm not sure I've forgiven anyone's character faults, or not, by rooting for them to win a fight.

EDIT: Giving it more thought, I'm rooting for Jones not just because I like his style but because I also dislike Cormier's style, at this time. Cormier is a very proficient wrestle-boxer, in my eyes. I don't want to be confronted with the reality that wrestle-boxing is better than whatever Jones is doing.

I miss the Jon Jones that was hungry and went for finishes. The new safe Bones is effective against most opponents, but Cormier will land harder if not more often, and if anyone gets takedowns at all I think its gonna be Daniel.

That said, this is a coin toss, and I'm a huge fan of both fighters.

Even though I believe DC has the speed advantage, I think there will be lots of disappointed DC/Anti-Jones fans on Sept 28th. I also think it would have been funny as hell if DC wore a pair of eye goggles for the staredown, lol. Should be a great fight as long as DC lasts longer than everybody's favorite fighter(until he started losing every fight and got popped for cheating yet again) Chael Sonnen did.

I dunno, I mean that spinning elbow against gus was a finishing move, he definitely tried to finish rashad but these guys are the best in the world it's not always going to end in a finish.
