SAN JOSE – MMAjunkie was on scene for today’s UFC on FOX 12 fighter weigh-ins, where main-event welterweight contender Matt Brown missed the mark in his first attempt on the scale.

Brown (21-11 MMA, 12-5 UFC) was 172.5 pounds for his main event against Robbie Lawler (23-10 MMA, 8-4 UFC), who was on the mark at 171. Their fight is a title eliminator with the winner expected to meet champion Johny Hendricks for the 170-pound belt.

Brown was given two hours to cut an additional 1.5 pounds to avoid losing 20 percent of his purse to Lawler.

I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

Apparently the athletic commission won't allow Brown or Lima to lose any additional weight.

Brown missed weight but because the commission wouldn't allow him to cut more weight like he wanted, he will not be fined nor will he be ineligible for post fight awards.

What's the point of making weight if you receive no consequences for failing to do so? I understand that the commission will usually allow them an additional two hours but since they didn't make it on the first try, it seems rather insulting to the other fighters who managed their weight. Personally, not fining them is understandable without the extra time, but I wouldn't make them eligible for bonuses.

I can see both sides of the argument.

It's unfair to the fighters who made weight, but its also shady that the athletic commission can deny the fighter his regular extra hour of weight cutting when half of the fine would have went to that very commission that's changing the rules.

If Brown loses I see Dana punishing him for missing weight by giving his next fight to someone out of the top ten. I really hope this weight cut miss doesn't ruin his career in the near future..

Seems like I'm the only pro brown supporter here.

Have to admit that lawler did look way better than him. Can't wait for this !

I still think brown wins by tko in the 3rd
